"What kind of life is everywhere? It should be like flying in the snow. " Su Shi, who has great literary talent, was frustrated in officialdom and had a bad career all his life. On the way to being relegated, in the rough and gloomy bottom of life, Su Shi used poetry to constantly resolve his inner worries and anger. Originally, he didn't know the true face of Lushan Mountain, just on this mountain. Professor Kang Zhen from the College of Literature of Beijing Normal University tells you the twelfth episode of Su Shi's series of eight masters in Tang and Song Dynasties, so please pay attention.

Voiceover:

Su Shi was one of the greatest writers in ancient China. He was proficient in all poems and songs, especially his ci, and became the highest level representative of Song Ci. Compared with the great achievements in lyrics, Su Shi's poems also have a high standard: "Peach blossoms are outside the bamboo, and the duck prophet warms the spring river"; Famous works such as "I want to compare the West Lake to the West Lake, and light makeup is always appropriate" are widely circulated and have been incorporated into contemporary Chinese textbooks for primary and secondary schools for popularization. Among Su Shi's poems, "I don't know the true face of Lushan Mountain, but toward which corner of the mountain" is most familiar to later generations. With the spread of this poem, "the true face of Lushan Mountain" has become a common saying. So how was this poem titled "Title of Xilin Wall" created? What kind of feelings are contained in Su Shi's poems? Professor Kang Zhen from the College of Literature of Beijing Normal University tells you the twelfth episode of Su Shi's series of eight masters in Tang and Song Dynasties, so please pay attention.

Kang Zhen:

Su Shi is a writer, and we are all familiar with Su Shi's ci. In fact, we also know that he is a great poet. A great feature of Su Shi's poems is that they are always full of strangeness. What is strangeness? Strange is strange, it is always fresh; Interest means great interest and interest, so this kind of curiosity is a very prominent feature of Su Shi's poems.

However, to write a strange poem, it should be rough, not so easy, and you can't write it casually. So his famous poem about Lushan actually took some thought, and no one knew it. Writing this poem of Lushan Mountain has a little history. In the first month of the seventh year of Yuanfeng in Song Shenzong, Su Shi was demoted to Huangzhou for five years. For various reasons, we have talked about these reasons before. Song Shenzong is a difficult figure for Su Shi, and his views are somewhat loose. He just wants to say, don't let him stay in Huangzhou, move a place for him, move a place, and be closer to Beijing. In April, Su Shi left Huangzhou after receiving the imperial edict. After he left Huangzhou, because his younger brother Su Zhe was demoted to Yunzhou at that time, he discussed with his family at that time. After passing Lushan Mountain, he went to Yunzhou to see his younger brother, then went back to Lushan Mountain and Jiujiang to see his family, and then went to Ruzhou together.

This time he came to Lushan Mountain, and he wanted to have a good tour on the mountain. His good friends, Fo Yin and Daoqian, are monks, who accompany him to travel. After he went to Lushan Mountain, he found it particularly beautiful, and as we know, Lushan Mountain is not as famous as these mountains in Shi Zhongshan. Lushan Mountain is already very famous, and there are many literati in natural dynasties. Both poets in the Tang Dynasty and poets before the Tang Dynasty praised Lushan Mountain, which is beautiful in itself, so Su Shi felt it necessary for me to write something for Lushan Mountain. He told his friend that I didn't write a poem when I came to Lushan this time. You see, when he came to Lushan, his original plan was not to write anything. However, Su Shi's fame is too great. As soon as he got to the mountain, all the monks halfway up the mountain knew that the famous Su Zizhan was coming, and then told each other that Su Zizhan was coming, and Su Zizhan was coming. Of course, we haven't seen the reality yet. When Su Shi was excited, he wrote a poem and said:

Mango shoes and bamboo sticks, hanging a hundred yuan tour.

It is strange that in the deep mountains, everyone knows the old days. -One of Su Shi's "Three Poems of First Entering Lushan Mountain"

Oh, everyone in this deep forest still knows me. Going further into the mountains, I am very excited and remember it vividly. Hey, didn't I tell my friends not to write at first? Now that you have broken the commandment, let's have another poem. He wrote another poem:

Without elements, there would be no blind date.

You know Lushan Mountain is an old friend in 2008. -Su Shi's Three Poems of Lushan Mountain (Part Two)

Say it again:

From the past, I enjoyed a definite reward, I wandered in the air.

It's not a dream now, it's really in Lushan Mountain. -Su Shi's Three Poems of First Entering Lushan Mountain (3)

Lushan Mountain is beautiful and colorful. If you want to know it comprehensively, unless you are an old friend of it, I have been longing for Lushan Mountain for a long time. Today, when I came here, I felt like traveling in a dream. You see, his understanding of Lushan Mountain has gone through a process. From the beginning, he said that he wanted to see the true face of Lushan Mountain, unless he was an old friend who had been friends with it for a long time and had been here many times. It's my first time here, and I still feel like I'm in a dream.

The beautiful scenery of Lushan Mountain attracted Su Shi deeply. He promised not to write, but then you noticed that the poem had not been written yet. Why? You have to go, and you can only go with that poem. Doesn't this conform to the law of literary creation? Write that if you're not coming. Well, he was walking, and it happened that one of his good friends had passed away. There was once a book called Lushan Mountain, which must be the same as it is now. Su Shi left with a "guidebook", huh? We are going to take a walk in this "Lushan Mountain" and record two poems of the last generation of poets. Of course, one is indispensable. "Rizhao incense burner gives birth to purple smoke, and the waterfall hangs thousands of rivers. Flying down three thousands of feet, it is suspected that the Milky Way has fallen for nine days. " The child can recite, so Su Shi naturally has no problem with this poem. But Su Shi looked down on the second poem, a poet named Xu Ning in the middle Tang Dynasty. This poem he wrote is called Lushan Waterfall, which specializes in waterfalls. Like Li Bai, they all wrote waterfalls. What does this poem say?

Vanity falls into the spring, and thunder rushes into the river.

In ancient times, it was as long as white, and a boundary cut off the green hills.

-Xu Ning's Lushan Waterfall

It means that the waterfall in Lushan Mountain seems to have been falling from the sky and crashing into the river. In other words, this waterfall is very powerful. I feel that as soon as it falls, it splits the castle peak in half. It's actually pretty good. Bai Juyi also said that the poem was too good to win. What do you mean he couldn't have written it? But in Su Shi's eyes, this poem is not very good. The monk who accompanied him said, Sue, why don't you sing a song? Su Shi said no problem, then wrote:

In ancient times, there were only immortal words.

What do you know about flying and splashing? Don't wash evil poems with Xu Ning.

-Su Shi's poem "Playing Xu Ning Waterfall"

What do you mean? It is said that there are many poems written on Lushan Mountain since ancient times, which were given to the world by God, but only Li Bai's poems are the best. Lushan Waterfall flies down, its task is not to wash Xu Ning's broken poems clean, but to say that Lushan Waterfall is to bathe Xu Ning's poems and make them become good poems. Make fun of Xu Ning's poems.

Look, it's nothing yet. It has been more energetic, first with his promise, and then with Xu Ning's poems.

Then when we went in, because there were many stone carvings on Lushan Mountain, he and Tao Qianhe saw an inscription on a big stone while walking. This inscription is a passage from the Buddhist scriptures. Everyone is standing here looking at it. After reading it, they left. As a result, when he came back, Su Shi asked people around him, can you still remember what the inscription just wrote? There was a monk named Junko, whose legal name was Junko. He memorized it, 67/ 10. Everyone was shocked. This memory is too good, and you study so well. What did Su Shi say your law number was? Say my name is Junko. Su Shi blurted out, "Adversity begets trouble and leads to Bodhi". What do you mean? If people are in a bad mood and not smooth, they will have troubles. When people are in a good mood, Bodhi is born. Bodhi means enlightened wisdom. Since then, this self-nature has been called "Shun Bodhi" by disciples and monks, which is a respectful title for him. What does this mean? In Lushan Mountain, there are not only scenery, but also people, and this person is also an understanding person.

Further on, he saw a poem carved on a stone. Su Shi thinks this poem is well written. At first glance, it was signed by a monk on this mountain. His name was Kezun. Finally, after Su Shi read it, he didn't know this, so he reconciled the poem. We don't need to read this poem, and we don't need to know this poem by Su Shihe. The problem is that Kezun happened to be on the mountain at that time. This Kezun monk is quite talented in poetry, but because of this talent, he feels a little arrogant and disrespectful to others. As a result, he heard that Su Shi and Su were writing his poems on the mountain, and that "maoji maoji" ran down from the mountain and insisted on meeting him. He was very happy. Su Shi didn't know him at first, but wrote this poem, but he didn't expect this man to come running with a big sweat. As soon as he saw Sue, he said, Sue, I still have many poems here that I want to sing with you. Su Shi doesn't like this style. He and Su Shi recited another poem of their own, and Su Shi didn't react much. He had a sedan chair carried and left. He thinks this man is particularly vulgar and doesn't look like a real poet. This family can still say, hum, Su Shi is jealous of me. He left, he can't compare with me, and he protects his shortcomings.

You see, there are all kinds of birds in the mountains, including "good birds" like Shunza and "birds" like Kezun. This is the beauty of Lushan Mountain. Poetry is like Li Bai, poetry is like Xu Ning, monk is like a straight, and monk is like a guest. It's really beautiful inside

Do you think this poem is easy to write? Not necessarily. Well, everyone has seen Lushan; I also saw the mountains; I also saw the waterfall; He also wrote poems, which damaged Xu Ning's poems. There are two places to visit, one is Tolin Temple in Lushan Mountain, and the other is Sailing Temple in Lushan Mountain. After seeing Torin Temple, I will see sairinji and sairinji, and then I will stop in front of a wall. Su Shi thinks it's time to write something, so he will dip in thick ink and write a question on the wall.

Looking at Lushan Mountain from the front and side of peaks and valleys, from far, near, high and low places, Lushan Mountain presents various faces.

I can't recognize the true face of Lushan Mountain because I am there. ?

After writing, Su Shi said, "I finished writing the poem of Lushan Mountain." What? Lushan, I'm done. Do you know that?/You know what? This sentence is very important. It will be the final summary of Lushan Mountain, which is also the biggest feeling of my visit to Lushan Mountain this time. We say Su Shi's poems are interesting. In fact, the first two sentences are very general, similar to vernacular poems. "Looking at the side of the mountain, the height is different." We can write, but you can't write the last two sentences Otherwise, he is Su Shi and you are not Su Shi. Its strangeness and interest are behind. "I don't know the true face of Lushan Mountain, but toward which corner of the mountain" is his feeling at the beginning of the mountain. He began to feel sleepwalking. He began to feel that it was difficult for people familiar with Lushan Mountain to fully understand it, and he didn't know that there were so many different monks, different understandings, different opinions and different poems in Lushan Mountain. All this made him feel deeply, and it was too difficult to understand the truth. This poem has this advantage. Do you know classical poetry? The first two sentences seem unremarkable. At the third sentence, he jumped up. In this jump, his height is different from yours. You fell down in the third sentence, and he jumped up in the third sentence. Not only did he jump up, but his eyes were wide open. It's wonderful to see this.

Voiceover:

For Su Shi, "the true face of Lushan Mountain" is not only a sensory proposition, but also a philosophical proposition of life. Su Shi should not only explore the true face of Lushan Mountain, but also express his ambition with poetry. The idiom "Snow Mud Claw" we use from time to time today comes from Su Shi's questioning about the truth of life and from a poem written by Su Shi when he was only twenty years old. So, what kind of poem is this? How did Snow Mud and Red Claw touch Su Shi's heart?

Kang Zhen:

In fact, there is a great feature in Su Shi's poems. He has been exploring the truth and asking for it. What truth? Always trying to figure out what happened to this guy. Why is he still alive? What's so exciting about being alive? What does he mean by this effort? What's the difference between his strength and his final weakness? I've been pursuing this thing since I was a child.

For example, as we all know, both he and Su Zhe achieved good results in the imperial examinations, with high scores. Later, both of them took part in the systematic examination and got good grades. Then there will be problems after the system check. You must be an official. The court doesn't stipulate that because you are two brothers, you can be an official in one room. If there is no such thing, they will have to break up. But Su Xun was in Beijing at that time, so Su Zhe didn't go to be an official for the time being. When he was in Beijing with his father, Su Shi went to be an official and Su Zhe went to see him off. This is the first time that the two brothers parted, and Su Shi felt a lot in his heart. When he came to Mianchi, Henan, his feelings were deeper. Why? Because Mianchi was a place where his father led his two brothers from Sichuan to Kaifeng to Beijing to catch the exam. At that time, Mianchi had a temple and they lived here. The abbot's monk is called Master Fengxian, and they also wrote a poem on the wall of the temple. This time, Master Fengxian died and was buried under the tower. The wall was broken and the poem was unreadable. Su Shi wrote a poem:

What is life like everywhere? It should be like flying in snow.

If you accidentally left your fingers and claws in the mud, Hong Fei wouldn't count.

The old monk is dead and has become a new tower. There is no reason to look at the old topic with a broken wall.

Do you still remember the rugged past, when the road was long and the donkey hissed?

-Su Shi's Mianchi Nostalgia and Harmony

What do you mean? "What is life like everywhere?" What is life like? I'll tell you what life is like. It's snowing, it's snowing heavily, and it's all over the floor. At this moment, a bird flew to the edge and stopped in the snow. I don't know what it is doing. It doesn't matter. The bird stopped in the snow for a while and then flew away. "What kind of life is everywhere? It should be like flying in the snow. " A bird left several paw prints on this tree, "accidentally left a finger paw print on the mud", because the bird may fly from the east or the west, and you don't know where it came from. Anyway, a bird came and left paw prints and flew away. "Hong Fei didn't expect anything." The bird flew away, which is true. After a while, the snow kept falling. Are there any paw prints? It's gone. It's covered. Has this bird been here? I don't know. Yes, do you? Where are the birds? "Hong Fei doesn't count", gone, gone. Where are the claws? Has it ever stopped? Paws? Paw prints are missing. Has this man been here? Have you been here once? I didn't know there was a sense of emptiness and uncertainty, you know? The old monk died and became a new tower. Come and see the old monk. Is the old monk here? There is only one tower left. What about the poem? Everything is over. Do you remember the past? I don't even remember. Life is a process, and you are just a passer-by in this process. Don't mind so much. Actually, he really cares He misses his brother Su Zhe, but he has to write like this.

You know that everything written in the work is contrary to what you think, that is, the more you show in the work, the less you care, and the inner entanglement. Through this, you can release yourself. From this perspective, literary works are also a kind of treatment and a good medicine. I feel much better after writing it. Life is a process, always suggesting to yourself that life is a process. No big deal. Life is always separated. Birds always come, come and fly away. We don't know if it is here. My brother and I don't know when we can meet again. This will make us feel better.

Very young, I wrote such a poem in my twenties, and it is a very famous one. You see, this metaphor is a major feature of his poetry. You know, if a person is particularly good at using metaphors when writing poems, it shows that he has a good brain, reads widely, is good at transformation and is good at communicating the essence of different things. He can connect these two things, which is very savvy. It is not easy to achieve such high achievements and understanding in your twenties. The same thing can become very valuable in Su Shi's eyes. This is when you were young.

When I was old, I got into trouble and was banished to Huangzhou. As for his arrival in Huangzhou, we only know that he wrote a lot of Rivers of No Return. In fact, there are some short poems that are particularly well written, but everyone just doesn't know them. It would be particularly interesting if they were read out. He has a poem with a simple name, Dongpo. How did he write it? He said:

The rain washed Dongpo, the moonlight was clear, and the city people walked like savages.

Don't be too sure about the slope, but love the sound of your stick.

-Su Shi's Dongpo

It's so well written. I'll tell you why: Dongpo. It's actually called Dongpo. It's that land, the land he planted. Didn't you also grow some barley? This was written at night, and a heavy rain washed the east slope. After a heavy rain, the moon on Dongpo looks particularly beautiful, exquisite, fresh and lovely. The following sentence is very important. "City people walk like savages." A city where people are citizens. What is a city person? Is a laity who comes and goes above the secular. During the day, vegetable sellers, soy sauce makers and hawkers all walked along this road, but tonight, they all stopped. There is no one else on this road, only one "savage" is me, that is, the mountain man, me, Dongpo layman, and I am coming. This Dongpo is mine tonight, which means "people in the city walk like savages."

How are you different from others? Don't forget, the road conditions on this Dongpo slope are not good. What is "right slope road" and "right slope road"? It's just that there are a lot of stones, which are winding and bumpy, and it's not easy to walk anyway. Don't complain that Dongpo's road is not easy. Who will complain? Those vendors who walk during the day, sellers and soy sauce makers all feel that this road needs to be repaired. How nice it would be to pave an asphalt road. How hard it is to walk. The barbarian came tonight and felt different. Don't think that the road is bumpy. What you want is solid. Why? I like the sound of dragging crutches. I walked along this road on crutches, listening to the sound of this crutch colliding with this stone, and it felt particularly pleasant. Self-love, I love this mouth, I love this little emotion, "self-love the sound of dragging the staff."

Think about it, what kind of mentality is this? On such a night after heavy rain, the moon is so beautiful in the sky, no one and no noise. When a person walks on a rugged path, the walking stick touches a stone and makes a light sound, just like music accompanying Su Shi, walking slowly on this path in the process of self-satisfaction. Isn't it equivalent to some hardships in life? But this kind of suffering is nothing to Su Shi. These hardships are like your fingers touching the strings and pressing the keys. You have to rub it, right? After this kind of friction, most people think it is noise, but in Su Shi's view, it is wonderful music that accompanies him, and this is his state of mind. The most wonderful curiosity happened in "Don't be too suspicious to find the right slope". Although this road is not easy to walk, it has my beauty. This poem is well written.

Voiceover:

The ancients said: Poetry expresses ambition, and songs express ambition. Compared with the heroic "river that never returns" and the lingering "thousands of miles away", Su Shi expresses his feelings with words, but more with poems, and what he says most is his feelings about the ups and downs of life. Although Su Shi became famous as a teenager, his career was bumpy all his life and he was repeatedly frustrated in the whirlpool of officialdom. In his later years, he was repeatedly relegated, and finally died on his way back to the North after an amnesty in Song Huizong. Throughout his life, he struggled all the way, which made Su Shi constantly pursue his own soul in his poems.

Kang Zhen:

He wrote many similar poems. Isn't Su Shi demoted to Hainan? It is a tragic thing that you want to be demoted to Hainan Island in your sixties, but Su Shi survived. What do you mean, survive? There are several different explanations. For example, everyone knows that he was demoted to Huangzhou in his forties, Huizhou in his sixties and Hainan Island in his sixties. That's terrible. The rest of my life is basically spent in relegation. Even if I came back with a life, I came back in Huangzhou, went to Huizhou and went to Hainan Island. Finally, Song Zhezong died. After Song Huizong acceded to the throne, I pardoned the world and sent him back to the Central Plains. But for a seriously injured person, even if he is brought back now, he is scarred and preoccupied, and can't change his mood immediately. Where is it so easy? It's not that easy. A broken heart is hard to recover. The biggest difference between Su Shi and us is that he didn't regard this as a kind of injury, and the old gentleman is open to it. On the evening of June 20th, he boarded a boat in Chengmai, Hainan Island and returned to the north. He wrote a wonderful poem:

On the third night, the bitter rain will eventually clear up.

Who embellishes the clouds and the moon, the sky and the sea will be clear.

In his spare time, Chaucer took advantage of music to get a general understanding of Xuanyuan's music.

I don't hate the narrow escape in the south. I spent the rest of my life traveling.

-Su Shi's Night Crossing the Sea on June 20th

Crossing the sea at night, when we say "crossing the sea in black", we mean "crossing the sea in black". "I'm going to the third night", the stars are shifting, and they will be bright in the blink of an eye. What is it actually? The deepest midnight, or later, at that time in the early morning. ?

"The bitter rain finally dispelled the wind." Just now, it was the time of heavy storm and heavy rain. Now, the sky is getting brighter. Walking on the sea, the wind is very strong and the rain is very heavy, but the author just said, "The bitter rain will eventually clear up the wind" and it will clear up soon.

It will be different when it clears up, so what? "Who decorated the clouds and the moon, the sky and the ocean became clear." This sentence is very interesting. What does this mean? It is said that now the clouds have dispersed and the moon has come out. For the sky and the sea, it is clean and there is no dross. Now that the wind has passed and the rain has passed, it has returned to its original appearance. There is an allusion here, which tells that during the Wei and Jin Dynasties, there was a man named Xie Chong who was with a man named Sima Daozi. In the evening, he drinks tea together and watches the moon while drinking tea. At first, there were clouds, but then they dispersed, revealing the bright moon. Xie Chong told Sima (Daozi) that the sky was so clear that it would be beautiful if it was dotted with a little floating clouds. This Sima (Daozi) told him that you have psychological problems. The sky used to be clear. What are you embellishing? Shall we look at this moonlit night and moonlit night now? Is it clean? Why do you have to decorate it with some floating clouds? It means that your heart is unclean. What does Su Shi mean? As I said just now, the clouds have gone, the moon has come out, my true colors have come out, and the true colors of nature have come out. I'm innocent, I'm honest, and that's who I am. No amount of clouds, no amount of rain and no amount of wind can hide my true colors. Someone explained that he was complaining and that my grievance had been clarified. In fact, I don't think Su Shi is so wronged. As for the change of the weather that night, Su Shi said that he came back by talking about the weather, which was very healthy. Even if you are dirty, you can't face the world healthily.

It says at the bottom: "You can borrow the pleasure of Xuanyuan when you are free." There is an allusion here. Confucius once said that his Tao could not be realized and he would go overseas by boat. In the words of Confucius, he said that he had been living overseas. This is redundant.

The last two sentences are the most unique, "I don't hate Nan Jiu's death for the rest of my life." I came to the south, and it's not just about Hainan. This means that I have been banished from Huizhou to Hainan for six years. I spent six years in this desolate land. What if I die here? As we said before, some of his friends are worried that he will die here. I am not dead, but if I die here, will I regret it? I don't regret it at all and I won't hate it. Why? I'll tell you what I think of me. I have been traveling wonderfully all my life. Coming to this south, I saw unprecedented scenery. I'm here to travel.

At this point, we think Su Shi's poems are really his panacea. I wonder why he writes so well. Why are his poems interesting? First of all, his life is unusual. A person who has experienced ups and downs in officialdom since childhood and was demoted in his later years, especially after middle-aged and elderly people, first provided him with a "correct slope". No one wants to live a hard life, and everyone likes to live a stable life, but the conditions are not allowed. What do you think of this problem? Su Shi wrote poems and wrote all these difficulties, but at the same time he showed different attitudes towards them. What are the pains and difficulties for me? To me, this seems to be the sound of music made by fingers touching the strings.

I can't see the truth of the world. I can think. Wrote "I don't know the true face of Lushan Mountain, but toward which corner of the mountain." He is not only thinking about the value and significance of human existence, he said, like a bird, it comes and goes without a trace, and he sees through it, and he is just a passer-by. But although I am a passer-by, I should cherish the true feelings and the present. You can't say that because I'm a passer-by, I don't care about anything. Wrong. Su Shi still attaches great importance to every difficulty. He should strive to turn this difficulty into his own happiness, so that he can have a space and time and have the strength to prepare for the next difficulty. A person may be knocked down by difficulties with one punch, and that will be over, but what should it be? Every time you punch, you should be brave to meet it.

You see, the poems of Lushan Mountain describe his profound understanding of life, and the poems of birds describe his understanding of the process of life. Later, he wrote down what difficulties meant in front of his eyes. In the end, he told the truth. I'm sorry, I also have my own views and opinions on this. When a person faces life, he shows it. Therefore, it is very appropriate for Su Shi to "put him to death and be born later". If he is executed, how should you deal with yourself after entering a desperate situation? We all know that Su Shi is developed, proud and on cloud nine. These situations are easy to understand and accept. The most difficult reality is how you see yourself when it's all over, when it's all possible.

For Su Shi, since life is a process, it has neither a beginning nor an end, and it can go on, that is, when life is over, it can't go on. These poems can still represent him. I think this is why Su Shi's poems have been playing an endless role in his life. When he was alive, these poems accompanied his life, his interest, his personality and healed his wounds. After Su Shi's death, these poems continued to walk in the world on behalf of Su Shi, which brought more courage to many people in our later generations.

Therefore, we say that poetry is like a person and writing is like a person. Let's say eight masters in Tang and Song Dynasties. Where is a very important contribution of the Eight Masters in Tang and Song Dynasties? Su Shi is not only an excellent poet, but also a great writer. He and his teacher Ouyang Xiu are called "Ou Su". As the saying goes, "Owen is like the tide, Su Wen is like the sea". If you want to fully understand Su Shi's literary achievements, you have to read his articles, which is what we will talk about next time. Thank you.

Voiceover (preview):

Su Shi is an all-rounder in the literary world of the Northern Song Dynasty. He is proficient in poetry, music, books and paintings. During Su Shi's relegation to Huangzhou, Hubei Province, he wrote an independent and detached "Red Cliff Fu" around the Yangtze River, brewing a clear spring of life in the withered land. The thirteenth episode of Su Shi, the Eight Masters of Tang and Song Dynasties, resounded through the ages.
