Weiyuan County is affiliated to Neijiang City, Sichuan Province. It is located in the northwest of Neijiang City and in the south-central part of the Sichuan Basin, spanning 29°22′ to 29°47′ north latitude. , between 104°16′ and 104°53′ east longitude. It borders Shizhong District of Neijiang City to the east, Da'an District and Gongjing District of Zigong City to the south, Rong County of Zigong City to the west, Zizhong County to the north, and Renshou County of Meishan City and Jingyan County of Leshan City to the northwest.
Weiyuan County covers an area of ??1,289 square kilometers, governs 20 towns, and has a total population of 728,422 (2016). In 2016, Weiyuan County achieved a regional GDP of 31.74 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2015. With an increase of 7.7%, the per capita GDP was 53,409 yuan. The transportation within the territory is convenient, with Chengzi-Lu Expressway running from north to south and Neiweirong Expressway running from east to west.
Weiyuan County is divided into two types of landforms: low mountains and shallow hills. The "Weiyuan Dome" covers an area of ??902 square kilometers, covering 180-130 million years of geological history. It is the largest dome geological area in China and the largest dome in Sichuan. The only exposed area of ??Triassic geology. There are more than 300 square mountain terraces, 58 deep canyons, more than 40 lakes, more than 90 ancient villages, and 630,000 acres of forest.
The climate belongs to the subtropical monsoon warm and humid climate zone, which is warm, humid and foggy all year round. The average annual temperature is 18℃, the frost-free period is 329 days, and the fog period is more than 280 days. The hottest weather temperature is 6-10℃ lower than that of surrounding cities. It is known as "the green island in the red basin and the verandah in the hot basin".
Weiyuan County was established in the 11th year of Emperor Kaihuang’s reign in the Sui Dynasty (591 AD), with the meaning of “prestige far and wide”; celebrities such as Hu Yugai, Luo Shiwen, Tang Lin and others have emerged in the territory;?[ 4] In ancient times, there were eight sceneries in Wei: "Moonlight at night in the mirror pond, morning bells on the beach, white pagodas covered with smoke, purple and gold emerald green, falling sunlight on the horizontal mountains, flying streams in the high caves, ancient Buddhas on the cliffs, and Laojun Danzao". Now there are scenic spots such as the Dome Scenery, the Ancient Village Cluster, and the Linhai Oxygen Bar. Guanyingtan Town within the territory was selected as the hometown of Chinese folk culture and art.
