Temperature and precipitation characteristics of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau
The Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau belongs to the humid subtropical zone. Although it is a plateau in terms of topography, the climate is significantly different due to different altitudes and atmospheric circulation conditions. For example, Kunming in Yunnan is about 1,900 meters above sea level, but its latitude is relatively low (25° north latitude). It is generally not affected by cold waves in winter, and is often controlled by the southwest warm current. It is mostly sunny, and winter and spring are quite dry and warm; in the summer half of the year, it is mainly affected by southwest Affected by the monsoon, precipitation is abundant, there are many rainy days, and the altitude is high, so the temperature in summer is relatively low, and there are two distinct seasons of dry and wet in the year. Under the combined influence of latitude, altitude and atmospheric circulation, the seasonal changes in temperature are small, and the plateau is like spring all year round, so Kunming is known as the "Spring City". The altitude in Guizhou is generally around 1,000 meters. It is often affected by cold air from the north in the winter half of the year. The cold air contacts the warm air, forming the famous "Kunming Quasi-stationary Front" in climate. Guizhou is often shrouded by stationary fronts in the winter half of the year, with a lot of cloudy and rainy weather. It is known as "the sky is never sunny three times" and the winter is cold; in the summer half of the year, affected by the southeast monsoon, there is more precipitation and higher temperatures.
