Edit this historical introduction of the club.

1878- 1902: the predecessor of Manchester United

Manchester United Football Club was founded in 1878, when its name was Newton Heath LYR (LYR is short for Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company).

Newton Heath is the name of an ordinary railway station in Britain. Workers on the construction site release their enthusiasm for football by competing with teams from other departments or other railway companies. They never thought that their team would occupy a place in English football and even international football matches in the future and become one of the top giants in the world. However, from the day this team was founded, it was doomed that Manchester United's style of play was offensive football that emphasized team and passion.

Thanks to his eldest brother, Manchester City, Newton Heath insisted on changing its name to Manchester Central, but the Manchester city government refused to approve it for a simple reason: you are not qualified. Then, Newton Schiff proposed to change its name to Manchester Celtic, and this time the Scottish Celtic Club withdrew.

Celtic is a veritable church team, headed by the Wolfried brothers. Wolfred was a priest of Notre Dame Sisters in his early days. Maris brothers. With this religious background, the Celtic club in Scotland is not easy to mess with. 1August 8, 898, Wolfred went directly to the court in London to complain that Newton Heath, who didn't know the Catholic background, even called himself a "Celtic"! Newton Schiff Club made an apology in person and publicly apologized to all parties for eight times, which was basically humiliating. 1902 On April 26th, Newton Schiff's five-year naming movement finally came to an end. They finally named themselves "Manchester United". In the 2006-07 season, Manchester United met Celtic in the Champions League. Celtic fans made gestures with the number "8" to laugh at what happened after August 8. 1898.

1888 when the Football Association was founded, the members who founded Newton Heath felt that they were not worthy to form the Football Association with Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End. Newton Heath didn't join the Football Association until 1892.

1902- 1909: the official birth and early glory of Manchester United

The economic situation of Newton Heath's team was relatively bad. By the beginning of the twentieth century, the team was in an unsustainable predicament. At this time, a local winery owner named john henry Davies saved the team. |

Davis decided to inject capital into the club, which enabled him to get some benefits from the management of the team. Since then, the number of teams has changed, including Manchester Central, Manchester Celtics and so on. Manchester United, a famous name in the world football in the future, was officially born in April/May of 1902.

The rise of the red devils

The important person who entered Manchester United after Davis was Ernest Magna. Magnar became the club secretary on 1903. Today, he is recognized as the first manager of the club. His team includes newly signed goalkeeper Harry Moguel and striker Charlie sagar. The team won the third place in the second division for two consecutive seasons, 1903- 1904 and 1905. The following season, 1905- 1906, was one of the most brilliant early seasons of Manchester United. Dick Duckworth is the vanguard of the team. And more importantly, the team can stand out from the second division and finally become the first division after playing in the football league 12 years.

To celebrate the victory, Magna hired billy meredith from rival Manchester City. Meredith, nicknamed the Welsh Wizards, can be said to be the original star of Manchester United, but at that time he was involved in a bribery case in Manchester City. Because of this, it seems destined that many Manchester United superstars will be shrouded in unique personalities that other football superstars do not have in the future. The joining of this excellent winger has greatly boosted the morale of Manchester United. 1907- 1908 season, meredith helped Sandy Turnbull score again and again, and finally the team won the first league championship in history. As the league champion, Manchester United participated in the Charity Shield Cup 1908 for the first time. In the game, Jimmy Turnbull, whose surname is the same as Sandy Turnbull, scored a hat trick to help Manchester United beat FA Cup champion Queens Park Rangers 4-0 and win the Charity Shield.

1907, Manchester United's upward momentum continued and it took a step to become an important force in English football. It is worth mentioning that the rise of Manchester United is not unrelated to the turmoil of Manchester City, the sworn enemy of the same city, which is also the beginning of the feud between the two teams. That year, the Football Association found out that Manchester City illegally paid players' salaries. At that time, the salary of first-class players was set at 4 pounds a week, but Manchester City has been secretly paying 6 to 7 pounds to attract excellent players. As a result, the Football Association severely fined Manchester City, five officials were dismissed, and 17 players were sentenced to never play for Manchester City again.

Chaos gave Manchester United a chance. Head coach Magno responded immediately. He poached five excellent players, including Billy meredith, from Manchester City in one breath, and the team's strength improved rapidly. That season, Manchester United won the historic eighth place.

A year later, on 1908, Manchester United realized its long-cherished wish and won the first top league championship in history. The Red Devils are unstoppable this year, beating Newcastle with six goals, Blackburn with five goals and Everton, Arsenal and Birmingham with four goals. Manchester United have scored a record 82 goals this season.

1909, Manchester United once again made a breakthrough in the history of playing football. They even beat Newcastle and Bristol and won the first FA Cup trophy in the club's history. Interestingly, in the final, Manchester United wore a white shirt with a red "V" on its chest, which became one of the classics of the Red Devils. After the last league game that year, the President of Manchester United filled the FA Cup trophy with champagne, took it to the dressing room of rival Arsenal, invited the gunners to have a drink, and wished Manchester United success.

Four months later, Manchester United's influence was further enhanced. At that time, the players' union was against the FA. The FA asked all players to quit the league, and other clubs did the same, but Manchester United didn't. Their players firmly support the interests of the trade union. To this end, the FA even decided to ban Manchester United. With the persistence and promotion of Manchester United, eventually, many clubs such as Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Sunderland changed their minds and rejoined the trade union. The FA had to compromise and reach an agreement with the union. Manchester United is also very popular because of its perseverance in this crisis.

The ups and downs of old Trafford

Before 1909, Manchester United had been playing at Crayton Stadium, which was a poor stadium and could hardly meet the development needs of Manchester United. 1909, the new stadium was completed in Trafford Park. The original planned capacity was 654.38+10,000 people, but it was reduced to 60,000 people because the budget exceeded the standard. 191February19, Manchester United officially opened the new stadium and named it "Old Trafford". Liverpool became the first visiting team to play in this stadium. Since this year, a new era has begun.

From 19 1 1 to 12, Manchester United won the league title again, which was the first trophy witnessed by Old Trafford. That year, Manchester United won the championship ahead of Aston Villa by 1 point, and head coach Moniole won the second league trophy during his coaching.

The showdown between giants 80 years ago

Magno is regarded as the first great manager in Manchester United's history, and his departure is surprising. 19 1 1 year, Mangnole suddenly switched to Manchester City, the city's arch-enemy, which was very unexpected, because in the same week, he just rejected Manchester City's bid for Manchester United captain Charlie Roberts. Eight months later, Mangnoel led Manchester City to win the league title. After losing the leader, Manchester United only ranked 13.

Magno's departure was a great blow to Manchester United, and then they began to have ups and downs. 19 13, Manchester United was relegated to the second division, and then upgraded and downgraded several times. Until the middle and late 1940s, it never won any honor. During this period, World War II once kept people away from football.

Busby's children

1945 February19, The Manchester Evening News published a message: "matthew busby signed an agreement today to become the head coach of Manchester United ..." Busby was only 34 years old at that time, and his arrival opened a new era for Manchester United. 1946, World War II ended, the football league was reopened, and Manchester United began to rebuild under the leadership of Busby. From 65438 to 0949, the old Trafford Stadium damaged by German bombing was restored and put into use, and Busby began a great legend here.

The reconstruction of Busby began with the reuse of young people. 195 1 year, two players under the age of 20, Jackie Blanchflower and roger byrne, entered Manchester United's first team, which marked the beginning of the team's rejuvenation. Tom jackson of Manchester Evening News wrote: "The' children' of Manchester United are calm and confident ..." This is the first time that Busby's young people have been called "babies". 1952, Manchester United, a team combining old and new, won the first division championship and the Red Devils returned.

Sir Busby

In the early 1950s, Manchester United's youth team won the Youth FA Cup five times in a row, providing a steady stream of outstanding talents for the first team. With Busby's strong support, duncan edwards and other young intellectuals entered the first team and experienced the taste of the league. At that time, Manchester United captain Bernie Ecclestone was only 25 years old, and tommy taylor, who signed at a high price, was also very young.

From 1956, "Busby Baby" began to take over the dominance of English football. 1955-56 season, Manchester United 1 1 won the championship ahead of time, and the young champion conquered England. Surprisingly, the average age of this Manchester United team is only 22 years old.

1956-57 Since the season, Busby has led Manchester United to participate in the European Club Cup (the predecessor of the Champions League) despite the opposition of the Football Association. "Busby's Children" swept the teams such as Ander Laichter, Dortmund and Bilbao, but lost to Real Madrid (away 1-3) with Stifano, Copa, Puskas, Gento and Yassin in the semi-final. That year, another world-famous young man began to emerge in Manchester United. This is bobby charlton.

1957, Manchester United won the first division championship, and Busby's team swept the whole England. In fact, this team started from 1952. Manchester United's youth team, which won the FA Youth Cup in 1952-57, provided fresh blood for the first team. As a legend, "Busby's Child" has remained in the history of Manchester United forever.

Reborn from an air crash

1February 6, 958, a terrible disaster befell "Busby's children". After attending the European Club Cup and eliminating Red Star Belgrade, Manchester United and his party changed planes in Munich to fly back to England. On that terrible afternoon, Manchester United's G- Alzu -609 plane failed to take off twice. On the third attempt, the plane rushed out of the end of the runway and crashed into the building there. In this disaster, 23 of the 43 passengers on board were killed.

Head coaches Busby and duncan edwards were rescued from the ruins. German doctors saved the former, but the latter died at the age of 2 16 days later. Edwards is regarded as one of the most talented young people in the history of English football, and his death has so far made Manchester United and the British feel sorry.

Other Manchester United players killed in the air crash were tommy taylor, who was signed by Busby for 29,999. When asked why he didn't take an integer, Busby explained that he wanted to relieve the pressure on children.

Bill Whelan, Geoff Bent, Eddie Coleman, mark jones, david pegg, Walter Creekmore, Tom Curry, Potter Willie, all of these players were killed in the air crash, and Manchester United suffered an unprecedented blow. In the second half of that season, the club quickly signed some players, plus some players from the reserve team and the youth team, to piece together a team that could play. In the end, Manchester United won the second place, and Bobby Charlton, who scored 29 goals, became their new hero.

Genius era

In the following seasons, Manchester United entered a slow recovery period. Only the FA Cup of 15 and 1963 was a surprise. "Dark Horse" Manchester United beat Leicester in the final. Since the mid-1960s, Busby has led Manchester United to regain its glory. 1965 and 1967, the red devils won the league championship twice, and Manchester United stood up from the ruins of the Munich air crash.

1968 champions league is the most brilliant memory Busby left for Manchester United. There are many excellent players in this Red Devils team, such as bobby charlton and george best. On May 19, Manchester United beat Benfica 4- 1 in the Champions League final, Charlton scored 2 goals, Best 1, and Kidd also scored.

Long wait

From 65438 to 0969, Busby left the position of head coach and was promoted to general manager, but his successor, McGuinness, could not get the support of the players, and Manchester United finally won the eighth place, so Busby had to take over as head coach a season later. However, in the 1970-7 1 season, Manchester United lost its magic and ranked eighth again. Busby retired again after a short trip to the club's board of directors.

With the retirement of George Best and Bobby Charlton, and the transfer of denis law to Manchester City, Manchester United fell into another trough. 1972-73 season was miserable, and Manchester United was relegated to the second division after nearly 40 years. In the key battle of relegation with Manchester City, Dennis Law's heel broke through Manchester United, and the Red Devils relegated to 1-0, which became the most famous example of a counterattack.

Although Manchester United returned to the first division after the second season, it seems that they can never find the glory of the Busby era. Except 1977 and 1983 won the FA Cup, the Red Devils slept for nearly 20 years until someone woke them up. These days, another red team, Liverpool, dominates England, and Manchester United can hardly compete with it.

Ferguson started an era.

Ferguson once said that the greatest achievement in my life was that his Manchester United pulled Liverpool down from the championship. As he said, the 1980s belonged to Liverpool, and in the 1990s Manchester United took its place.

1986-87 After the start of the season, Manchester United, coached by Atkinson, had a poor record, hovering at the bottom of the standings, being eliminated from the League Cup ahead of schedule and being eliminated from the FA Cup. United made a decision on June 5438+065438+ 10, and Alex Ferguson became the new manager of United. Before that, Ferguson's coaching achievements in Scotland were very convincing. He led Aberdeen to break the situation that Celtic and Glasgow Rangers took turns to sit in the village. During his eight years in Aberdeen, Ferguson led his team to win three Scottish League titles (1980, 84, 85), four Scottish Cup titles (1982 to 84, 1986), 1 Scottish League Cup titles (/kloc-

Rocker

1987-88 season, Ferguson began to transform the team, he completed three important signings, Bryan McClair of Celtic, Viv Anderson of Arsenal and steve bruce of Norwich. This season, McClair scored 3 1 league goals and cup goals, becoming another Manchester United player with more than 20 league goals after George Best. By 1996, McClair had made 447 appearances for Manchester United and scored 126 goals. Bruce later became one of Ferguson's best central defenders and an important contributor to the Manchester United dynasty in the 1990s.

After winning the runner-up in the 87-88 season, Manchester United entered a downturn, and Ferguson even almost lost his handsome position. In the 88-89 season, Manchester United only ranked 1 1, and did not perform in the Carling Cup and the FA Cup. Meanwhile, Ferguson is still buying the players he wants, including Webber of Nottingham Forest, Gary Parrister of Middlesbrough and paul ince of West Ham.

1989-90 season is a crucial year for Ferguson. His poor performance last season reduced his reputation. The continued downturn in the league this season has led Manchester United to consider firing Ferguson. 1990 At the beginning of the year, Ferguson came at the most difficult time for Manchester United, but the FA Cup victory saved him. The final of 1 was the turning point. Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 1 away, and mark robins's goal brought Ferguson back to life. Later, an insider revealed that Manchester United would fire Ferguson if he lost the game. Later, in the FA Cup final, Manchester United drew 3-3 with Crystal Palace and won 1-0 in the play-off. This champion kept Ferguson's position, although Manchester United only ranked 13.

1990-9 1 season, Manchester United continued to win the cup. They beat Barcelona 2-/Kloc-0-0 in the final and won the European Cup Winners Cup, which is the first European trophy for Manchester United since 1968. In the league, Manchester United improved from last season and finally won the sixth place, during which they were deducted 1 point for fighting with Arsenal on the field. Of course, Ferguson's line-up is still orderly, with Peter Schmeichel in Blondeby, andrei kanchelskis in Donetsk and paul parker, the English right-back of Royal Garden Rangers. At this time, no one realized that an unprecedented powerful new dynasty was brewing.
