Is the temperature in Chicago very different from that in Beijing?

I grew up in Beijing, and now I study in Champaign near Chicago. The temperature is similar to Chicago. The temperature in Chicago in summer is much stronger than that in Beijing, and it is still very cool. Because it is adjacent to Lake Michigan, it has the title of "windy city", with strong monsoon all year round and a little chill in winter, much like Beijing when the Siberian cold current comes. But extreme weather in Chicago is more frequent than in Beijing, with storms and tornadoes. For example, when the snowstorm was MINUS 26 degrees this winter, it broke the record. But on the whole, Beijing should be able to cope with the weather in Chicago.
