Are sweet potatoes resistant to moisture?

Answer: Sweet potatoes are not intolerant to moisture. Under high temperature and high humidity conditions, sweet potato tubers will sprout.

When storing sweet potatoes for the winter, storage management must be based on natural conditions.

The temperature in the cellar is always maintained at 11-13°C, and the relative humidity is maintained at 85%-90%.

If the cellar temperature exceeds 15°C, open the vent appropriately to let out the heat.

After the temperature rises in spring, when the temperature exceeds 12°C at noon on a sunny and warm day without wind, ventilating the potato cellar for a short period of time can reduce the concentration of bacteria in the cellar and prevent excessive humidity in the cellar. Causes mold to form on damaged areas of the potato skin, affecting the appearance and quality of the product.

If the humidity in the cellar is low, water should be added to the pit in the cellar or the walkway should be paved with wet straw curtains to increase the air humidity in the cellar.

Note: For potato cellars that have been tightly sealed for a long time and have a large number of rotten potato pieces, the vents must be opened in advance for ventilation before entering the cellar, and the cellar can only be entered when it is safe to avoid suffocation due to lack of oxygen for management personnel.
