When and how to plant taro in Lipu?

First, the planting time of Lipu taro is generally chosen in the spring of each year, and it will be planted immediately after the temperature in spring is completely warmed up and stabilized, usually around March of each year. If it is in the northern region, the planting time needs to be later to avoid seed rot caused by low temperature frostbite. If planted in a greenhouse, it can be planted all year round.

Second, what should I pay attention to?

1. Soil preparation and fertilization. Taro has wide adaptability to soil, and clay with rich and deep soil and strong water retention is the best. Ditching shall be carried out after soil preparation, with row spacing of 80- 100 cm, width of 50 cm and depth of 35 cm. When plowing and fertilizing, taro needs a lot of fertilizer, and its growth period is also relatively long. Therefore, when planting, base fertilizer should be applied, and 2000 kilograms of high-quality organic fertilizer and 60 kilograms of 48% potassium sulfate compound fertilizer can be applied per mu, and furrows should be opened according to row spacing.

2. Sowing method. Selecting taro seeds without diseases and insect pests and wounds, drying in the sun for 3-4 days, then densely planting indoors, covering with wet sand with the thickness of 8- 10 cm to accelerate germination, keeping the room temperature at 20-25℃, waiting for 20-30 days, and when the buds grow to 3-4 cm and the ground temperature of 5 cm is stable at 10℃. Open two seed ditches at the edge of the border, with a distance of 30cm and a depth of 7cm. After pouring enough water in the ditch, plant taro with a spacing of 33-40 cm, and 4500-5000 plants can be planted per mu.

3. Water resources management. You don't need to water taro before it emerges, but you should keep the soil moist in the middle and late stage and drain it in time in rainy season. About 80 days after emergence, combined with watering, you can drill holes and fertilize beside the plants. The soil for planting taro should not be too dry, and yellow leaves and dead leaves will appear in dry weather. But if the soil is too wet, stagnant water will also be bad for root growth. Make the soil moisture at seedling stage sufficient and avoid watering. The soil needs to be wet and dry alternately at seedling stage, and attention should be paid to drainage when it rains.

4. Farming and ridging. Taro seedling stage can be combined with topdressing for intertillage, weeding and ground warming. At the end of the seedling stage, you can plough it again to level the cultivation ditch. In the future, you can cultivate the soil once every 20 days, with a thickness of 7 cm, twice. Soil cultivation is beneficial to inhibit the germination and growth of taro and its terminal buds, thus reducing nutrient consumption, making taro fully expand, producing a large number of adventitious roots and improving the drought resistance of plants.

The above is about the planting method and time of Lipu taro, as well as the matters needing attention, I hope it will help you!
