Why don't some flies freeze to death in winter?

Flies don't disappear all at once in winter. When the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, most flies will lose their mobility. However, flies will not freeze to death unless the temperature drops to MINUS 10 degrees. As soon as the weather turns cold, the flies will struggle. Outdoor flies tend to move indoors and often gather in sunny places. Near the cooktops and glass windows in the countryside, they are their favorite places at this time, and they are too lazy to fly when they fall. However, as soon as the temperature rises, or at noon, they will be active again and look for food everywhere.

Surprisingly, flies overwinter in different ways. In the warmer south, after winter comes, although the activities of flies are not so rampant, female flies will still lay eggs and do not have to live a "hibernation" life. Most flies spend the winter in the form of pupae and larvae. Flying pupae hide in the ground, not afraid of snow, quite safe until spring comes.

After winter, Cang rope has absorbed enough water and nutrition, and most female flies are pregnant. The climate has always been very unfavorable to their activities. They are looking for warm, sheltered and humid places as winter places. For example, every corner of canteens, kitchens, stables and public toilets is an ideal "residence" for flies to spend the winter. Flies often hide in stables, poultry houses, warehouses, houses and other places for the winter. But some flies will freeze to death, and these flies will not be revived until the next spring.

Most flies have a short life span. The average housefly can only live for about 1-2 months in midsummer, but in spring and autumn, its life span will be extended to 3-4 months, while the overwintering housefly can live for about half a year, which is called "longevity". Because the winter in the north lasts for 4-5 months, they hibernate most of the time.

Experts' research has proved that summer and late autumn are the peak of fly emergence, and adult flies overwinter and the next spring are the peak of reproduction. The main breeding grounds are pig manure and human manure. From this point of view, there are many ways for flies to overwinter, which is not so simple.
