Huayao·Longhui Chongmutang Village

Chongmudang Village, a traditional village in Huxingshan-Huayao Scenic Area, Longhui County, Shaoyang City, is located in the hinterland of southwestern Hunan, Hunan and is the largest Huayao settlement in my country. Chongmutang Village was shortlisted for the first batch of Chinese traditional villages in 2012. In July 2014, it was listed on the list of centralized traditional villages in Hunan Province for the overall protection and utilization.

Chongmu Tai Village is also known as "China's No. 1 Huayao Village". Worshiping Mudang, as the name suggests, means worshiping trees. Although the Huayao people are a branch of the Yao people, they do not believe in King Pan. The Huayao people were a constantly migrating people in ancient times. During the migration process, they relied on ancient trees and stones to shelter them from the wind and rain, so they regarded them as protection. They are grateful to God, so Huayao people love trees very much, worship ancient trees, and are extremely devout in their feelings towards ancient trees. The ancient village is full of towering ancient trees, jagged rocks, overlapping mountains, deep ravines, and shrouded clouds and mist.

?The ancient forest in Chongmu Tai Village covers an area of ??3.8 hectares. There are 325 century-old trees, of which 28 are more than 300 years old. The oldest tree is more than 1,000 years old. Its "ancient" it goes without saying.

There are more than 150 buildings in Chongmu Tai Village, and the proportion of traditional buildings is as high as 83.93%. Most of them are single-story or double-story Huayao traditional wooden buildings. They conform to nature and adapt to local conditions to adapt to the humidity of dense mountains and forests. Warm climate. There are acres of thousand-year-old woods and hundreds of wooden residential buildings of the Yao people in the village. The oldest one is the house of the second generation ancestor of the Shen family who moved here. It has four doors and three rooms, and each door has only three pillars. It covers an area of ??about 100 square meters. After more than 200 years of wind and rain, it is still well preserved and is now inhabited by future generations.

Most of the traditional houses in Chongmu Tai Village are in the form of bucket-type wooden buildings, with a natural and simple style and complete structure. The traditional wooden buildings in Huayao are similar to the stilt houses in western Hunan. They are usually built with two floors and the stairs are visible outside. The second floor is often used as an elevated floor, mainly for storage. When necessary, wooden walls can be enclosed into walls to create rooms. Daily life is mainly on the first floor. Influenced by the living habits of the Han people, a shrine is usually installed on the first floor to place the tablet of the god and the Lord, and it becomes the main room for daily activities and hospitality.

Chongmu Tai Village retains the complete pattern of natural ecology, and the peaceful pastoral life of Yao villagers who work at sunrise and rest at sunset is also a history of action that continues to this day. When the weather is fine, you are likely to encounter several old women from Huayao on the road leading to the ancient forest. They sit on the ground, using the snow-white thread in their hands as brushes and the ink-colored cloth as the base to embroider them stitch by stitch. The picture in my mind. These pictures have mythical content and complex, exquisite and lifelike mysterious totems. This is Huayao's characteristic craftsmanship - Huayao flower-stitching. Huayao flower-stitching has a long history. It is recorded in Yingxuan's "Customs and Customs" of the Eastern Han Dynasty that Huayao's ancestors "collected wood bark, dyed it with grass, and made five-color clothes." There are thousands of cross-stitch patterns in Huayao. There are more than 300,000 stitches on one tube skirt and it takes more than 180 working days to complete.

Chongmutang Village has a village pattern that integrates ancient woods, terraced fields, and ancient villages. It completely retains and continues Huayao folk customs. The essence of its culture lies in the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. The traditional village of Chongmu Taicun retains the rich production and life scenes of the Huayao people. It is the core village among the only Huayao residents in the world. It is also a traditional Chinese ancient village with great cultural value.
