Where is Changma Grottoes?

Changma Grottoes are national key cultural relics protection units.

In the west of Underwater Village, Changma Township, Yumen City, near the village, there is a north-south cliff about 50 meters long. Changma Grottoes is located in the middle of this high mountain wall, about 25 meters from the ground. It is about 5 kilometers from the grottoes to the south to Changma Township Government, and about 70 kilometers from the grottoes to Yumen Town and National Highway 3 12. It is generally believed that Dunhuang Grottoes include Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, Anxi Yulin Grottoes and Yumen Changma Grottoes. Therefore, Changma Grottoes is an important part of Dunhuang Grottoes, and it is also the sister grottoes of Mogao Grottoes and Yulin Grottoes. Changma Grottoes were excavated in the Five Dynasties and the early Song Dynasty, and further excavated and restored in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. There are 24 original grottoes, which are divided into Upper Corner Grottoes and Lower Corner Grottoes, and distributed in Upper Corner Mountain and Lower Corner Mountain in Shuixia Village of Changma Township. 1932, 1932 At 8: 45 on February 25th, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.7 occurred in Changma Basin, with the epicenter in Zhujiagobi area of Changma Basin, causing 270 deaths and more than 300 injuries.1000 people killed or injured livestock, and about 87% houses collapsed. In this earthquake, Shaojiao Grottoes 12 caves in Changma all collapsed, and the murals, painted sculptures and other cultural relics in the caves were all destroyed. Most of the caves in Changma Xiaku Grottoes were also damaged in the earthquake, and only four caves survived. These are the four caves in Changma Grottoes that we saw today.
