A comprehensive introduction to koalas (koalas)

Koalas (also known as koalas) are rare and precious primitive arboreal animals in Australia, belonging to marsupials. It is gentle and honest, looks like a bear, has a pair of big ears, a flat nose and no tail, and is covered with a thick layer of short taupe hair. The fur on the chest, abdomen, inner limbs and inner ear is gray, about 80 cm long and weighs about 15 kg. It has strong limbs and sharp claws, and is good at climbing trees. It takes trees as its home all day and doesn't even sleep. Because koalas get enough water from eucalyptus leaves, they seldom drink water, so the locals call it "Kwale", which means "no water".

During the day, koalas usually curl up and perch on eucalyptus trees, and then go out to climb up and down branches at night to find eucalyptus leaves to satisfy their hunger. It has a large appetite and a narrow esophagus, and does not eat eucalyptus leaves. Although there are more than 300 kinds of eucalyptus in Australia, koalas only eat 12 of them. It especially likes to eat the leaves of Eucalyptus roseus, Eucalyptus manna and Eucalyptus maculata. An adult koala can eat about 1 kg of eucalyptus leaves every day. Eucalyptus leaf juice is aromatic, containing cineole and anisoterpene. So koalas always give off a fragrance of eucalyptus leaves.

Every summer is the mating season for koalas. One month after pregnancy, the female koala gives birth to cubs. Usually, each fetus has only one offspring and few twins. When koalas were born, they were only about 2 cm long and weighed only 5.5 grams, just like a small reptile, but they could get into the skin of their mother's abdomen and suck milk. After 5 months, the koala's length can reach 16 cm, but it still lies on its mother's back or comfortably in her arms. It was not until she was one year old that she reluctantly left her mother and began to live independently in the wild. The life span of koalas is generally around 12 years.

Koalas belong to Australian marsupials. They have a big nose and like eucalyptus leaves. They are very simple and lovely.

Koalas are fat, with soft hair and round heads. Their big noses are very prominent and cute. In China, they are almost as famous as pandas. An adult koala can weigh up to 10 kg and have a body length of1m.

Koalas have different pouch from kangaroos. Their pouch opens backwards, with only two nipples. But the little wombat can still feel very comfortable inside.

Koalas can climb trees when they are young. When they come down from the tree, they always fall backwards and always land on their bottoms first. And it's slow.

Koalas, with shovel claws suitable for digging, are marsupials that dig holes. Of all mammals that can dig holes, koalas dig the largest. Often up to ten meters long, the hole diameter is sixty centimeters, and some caves are two meters deep underground.

The koala's staple food is eucalyptus leaves. They can eat at least 50 kinds of eucalyptus leaves, as well as leaves of Myrtaceae plants other than eucalyptus. Females are usually born in winter, and after a few months, they begin to practice short-distance crawling in caves. When the female wombat leaves the cave in search of food, she almost always puts her cubs in a bag. When the wombat grows to 8 months, it will never leave the pouch again, but it will always follow the female wombat. It will be another four months before I can live completely on my own.
