1. The rootstocks used for grafting peach seedlings are all local peaches. Peach is an irreplaceable rootstock for grafting southern seedlings, because it is thick and easy to grow, resistant to pests and diseases, and its root system is resistant to water and moisture. At present, the rootstocks used in Miao Di, a peach in northern China, are all local Prunus armeniaca, which are drought-resistant, cold-resistant and barren-resistant, and are suitable for the vast northern regions. However, when the grafted seedlings with Prunus armeniaca as rootstock are introduced to the hot and humid south, the biggest problem is that the roots can't breathe well in wet soil, which is prone to physiological diseases and eventually rot.
2. The scions used for grafting peach seedlings all come from domesticated mother trees. It is also a peach from the island of Xinchuan, which has been planted in the north and south for a long time. After more than ten years, their biological adaptability has been greatly different. Xinchuan Zhongdao peach planted in the north adapted to the local climate environment of drought, little rain, low temperature and long sunshine, and its propagated seedlings were difficult to adapt when it was first introduced to the south. The scion mother trees in this field have been growing normally in the local area for many years. After long-term biological adaptation and domestication, it can be well integrated into the rainy and humid climate in the south, with little fog, high temperature in summer and warm weather in winter.
3. Most of the selected varieties have short dormancy period and low chilling requirement. Insufficient low temperature or refrigeration capacity is the first problem that the south should pay attention to. Cooling requirement refers to the effective low temperature hours required to meet the natural dormancy of deciduous fruit trees, which is usually expressed by the accumulated low temperature hours of 0 ~ 7.2℃ (excluding 0℃) required after entering dormancy. If the low temperature is not met, even if the temperature and humidity conditions are suitable for fruit trees to germinate and bloom, they will not germinate normally, which is characterized by dead buds, irregular flowering (long duration) and low fruit setting rate, which further affects the yield. The winter climate in northern China is cold and the low temperature lasts for a long time, while the winter climate in southern China is warm and the low temperature lasts for a short time. In this way, many northern improved fruit trees with high cold demand cannot naturally break dormancy when introduced to the south, which leads to the failure of introduction. Therefore, varieties with short dormancy period and low incomplete differentiation of cold flower buds should be selected when introducing.
4. Most selected varieties are self-pollinated. Pollination trees suitable for the main varieties should be configured when introducing, but if the main varieties have a certain self-pollination rate, fruit trees will not have any problems. No matter how good the pollination tree is, 100% is not compatible with the main varieties. In addition, the southern flowering and pollination season is cold and rainy, which affects the pollination between pollination trees and main varieties. Therefore, it is best to introduce varieties with high self-pollination rate when introducing.
5. Most of the selected varieties are early-maturing varieties. First, most early-maturing varieties have short dormancy period and low chilling requirement. Secondly, early-maturing varieties mature before July, which can avoid the summer rainy season and reduce the prevention and control of many diseases. Third, the sunshine in the north is strong, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is large, so the fruit quality in the north is much better than that in the south. Only by developing early-maturing varieties and seizing market opportunities can the South win.
6. Most of the selected varieties are easy to color, high in sugar content, not easy to crack, and resistant to pests and diseases. The northern part of China has long sunshine time and good illumination, while the southern part has more rainy days and insufficient illumination. In this way, after many excellent fruit trees in the north were introduced to the south, their quality declined, their surface color was dim, their pulp was light, and they were easy to crack and infect. When introducing, we should choose varieties that are easy to color, high in sugar content, not easy to crack and resistant to pests and diseases.
7. All the selected varieties are hard-fleshed peaches, which is the general trend of developing edible peaches at present. Hard-fleshed peaches are crisp, tender and unique, and the most important thing is a long shelf life. Soft-fleshed peaches can become soft and broken after 2-3 days of ripening, while hard-fleshed peaches can generally be preserved naturally at room temperature for 20 days or even longer. Some varieties can be hung on trees to delay picking after maturity, and the storage period is longer.
8. Most of the selected varieties are Japanese and Korean varieties. Both Japan and South Korea have humid maritime climate, and the latitude is similar to that of the vast areas in southern China, and the climatic conditions are very consistent.
9. Most of the selected varieties are all red peaches, because all red peaches are relatively easy to be colored in rainy weather in the south. Red peaches are a high-grade peach, which is recognized by people's long-term consumption habits.
