What do screws eat?

Snails are omnivores. They eat microorganisms in the soil, some humic fruits and vegetables, plants floating in water, tender stems and leaves of aquatic plants, mosses and so on.

If it is a farmed snail, it can be fed with all kinds of fruits, vegetables, rice bran, wheat bran, peanut bran, soybean powder and various animal scraps.

Matters needing attention and management methods of artificial breeding

Snails are hardy and afraid of heat. The suitable temperature for its life is 20 ~ 28 degrees. When the water temperature is lower than 10 degrees or higher than 30 degrees, it stops eating, burrows into the soil and hides in the grass for the summer. When the water temperature is lower than 10 degrees, it hibernates. When the water temperature exceeds 40 degrees, snails will be scalded to death.

Although the disease resistance of snails is very strong, if algae and sessile ciliates are found on the surface of snail shells during the cultivation process, they can be sprayed with formalin solution in the whole pool and changed in water after 20-24 hours.

In the high temperature season, the water flow should be increased, and the temperature rise should be controlled to ensure that the water body has sufficient dissolved oxygen. Snails hibernate in the soil in cold weather. At this time, the water should be changed 1-2 times a week, and some chopped straws or other crop straws should be sprinkled on the water to facilitate the overwintering of Oncomelania hupensis.
