Can the police check the hotel housing records at will?

Hotel registration information belongs to personal privacy, so the public security organs can't check it at will. If it is necessary to investigate some facts in handling a case, you can inquire according to law after reporting to the leader for approval, and keep the inquiry record.

Generally, the records of room opening are permanently stored in the database of the public security organ's intranet, and can only be retrieved and inquired by the police according to their functions and powers. If it is not the purpose of handling a case, it is not allowed to inquire privately, otherwise it will be suspected of violating personal privacy.

Legal basis: Article 22 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on People's Police shall not commit any of the following acts:

(1) Spreading remarks that damage the reputation of the country, participating in illegal organizations, participating in assemblies, processions, demonstrations and other activities aimed at opposing the country, and participating in strikes;

(2) divulging state secrets and police work secrets;

(3) practicing fraud, concealing the case, shielding and conniving at illegal and criminal activities;

(4) extorting confessions by torture or corporal punishment or maltreatment of prisoners;

(5) illegally depriving or restricting the personal freedom of others, and illegally searching others' bodies, articles, residences or places;

(6) extortion or soliciting or accepting bribes;

(7) Beating others or instigating others to hit others;

(8) illegally imposing penalties or collecting fees;

(9) accepting guests and gifts from the parties and their agents;

(1) engaging in profit-making business activities or being employed by any individual or organization;

(11) dereliction of duty and failure to perform legal obligations;

(12) other violations of law and discipline.
