Do couples need ID cards of both people when going to a hotel?

Yes. According to Article 6 of the "Hotel Industry Public Security Management Measures", hotel reception of tourists requires that two couples staying in a hotel cannot register only one ID card. Both ID cards must be registered with real names. If you want to check into a hotel in mainland China, you must show your ID card or passport. Student ID cards and driver's licenses are not acceptable.
