You can't stay in a hotel if your ID card expires. According to relevant laws and regulations, the identity documents of citizens in China mainly include People's Republic of China (PRC) household registration book, resident identity card, temporary id card, driver's license, passport, seaman's card, Hong Kong and Macao pass and soldier's card. If the ID card expires, you can check in with other documents.

After the ID card expires, the method of handling it in different places is as follows:

1. I apply at the resident ID card acceptance point of the public security organ in my place of residence, fill in the registration form of resident ID card acceptance in different places, and pay the application fee. Among them, apply for renewal of resident identity cards and apply for replacement of resident residence booklet or residence permit;

2. After accepting the application for renewal and replacement of resident identity cards at the reception point in different places, the acceptance information will be transmitted to the public security organ where the applicant's household registration is located in time, and the public security organ at the county level where the household registration is located will examine and issue it in time;

3. The public security organ of the place of residence shall complete the production, verification and distribution within the statutory time limit after receiving the certified information, and the applicant shall receive the certificate at the acceptance point with the receipt of the certificate. If a certificate is renewed, the original certificate shall be returned when a new certificate is obtained.
