Future planning of graphic designers

Where is the way out for "career planning" graphic designers?

Mr. Gong, artistic director of the hotel

I studied graphic design in an internationally famous design school, so I was very confident in my ability when I graduated, so I opened a studio as soon as I graduated. 1 month later, the studio didn't receive the order of 1, and the business of big companies was contracted by some big advertising companies. I began to worry that in order to survive, as long as there is a list, I am extremely excited, and it doesn't matter what grade or profit. But half a year later, my studio closed.

After the dream of starting a business was shattered, I had to look for a job. I was lucky enough to get a job in an advertising company in 4A. At work, I have developed a good design foundation and more opportunities. Headhunters often throw olive branches at me. After several choices, I came to this hotel as an art director, with a monthly salary of 1, 000. But I am not satisfied, because my job is still to carry out the tasks assigned by my boss, and my desire to communicate with customers and dominate the whole list by myself has never been realized. For a designer, if I can't complete the creativity and production of a graphic design work completely, it can't be regarded as success, and I need to find my own relationship by contacting customers, but I have never had such an opportunity.

The lack of creativity leads to the shortage of talents.

For the professional confusion of graphic design practitioners at all levels, the reporter interviewed Professor Lin Jiayang, Dean of School of Communication and Art, Tongji University. He said that there are now more than 1000 colleges and universities in China with undergraduate majors in graphic design. According to the calculation of 30 students in each class, there are more than 30 thousand graphic design talents who graduate from undergraduate courses every year. In addition, there are at least 654.38+million graphic designers trained by various colleges, vocational colleges, technical secondary schools and social training institutions every year, but advertising companies still complain that they can't recruit satisfactory people. Why is this? This shows that our domestic graphic designers have not reached a higher level and are at a lower level as a whole. From the above example, we can see the problems of graphic designers in China:

First of all, students who receive higher education in graphic design have lower cultural literacy. Generally speaking, they have a solid foundation in painting, but they are lacking in cultural quality, study habits and ability to accept knowledge. This directly leads to their weak cultural background, and it is inevitable that there are few cultural elements in their works. At the same time, these students' English level is generally poor, so they can't directly understand the concepts and trends of foreign graphic design, and at the same time, it is difficult to deeply understand foreign excellent works.

Secondly, there is something wrong with the school's training methods. Because graphic design major is still a new course in China, many teachers lack front-line work experience and do not understand the market. Teachers' teaching of students also stays in imitation, lacking the consciousness and methods to cultivate creativity. The award-winning classmate Zhi Ting, if she doesn't realize that she needs to strengthen the cultivation of creativity, then no matter how good her own quality is, she will eventually "disappear from everyone".

There are graphic designers who have just graduated or just come out of training institutions. Because they have mastered the skills of graphic design, they all think that they can become graphic designers, so they are negligent in learning and have no consciousness to learn the most cutting-edge knowledge. They are dissatisfied with the status quo, but they can't find a way to break through, and over time they lose their upward motivation.

Generally speaking, what Chinese mainland graphic designers lack most is creativity, which has become the bottleneck of their development. In some big design companies, there are quite a few creative directors from Hongkong, Taiwan Province and other regions, while mainland graphic designers who do well can only reach the level of artistic directors, lacking the strength and opportunities for upward development.

Realize your dream: keep your passion and do your homework.

Where is the outlet for mainland graphic designers? Professor Lin Jiayang believes that graphic designers should quickly adjust their direction if they are not passionate about graphic design, and they can develop in other directions such as printing and commerce. They have a lot of homework to do if they are going to continue to do it and achieve results. Professor Lin and Mr. Zhou Guochu, Vice President of China of La Salle International Design and Research Institute, both put forward good suggestions:

Hard work comes first. A good graphic designer needs comprehensive quality, and drawing and using computer software are only the most basic skills. Therefore, if you want to be an excellent graphic designer, you must have the habit of continuous learning and the motivation to pursue innovation. It is a flash in the pan to pursue economic benefits and social impact before practicing internal strength, and it is difficult to achieve real results.

The combination of Chinese and foreign is the key. Foreign graphic design is very developed, so we must fully learn their skills, especially creativity. At the same time, we should not copy and imitate blindly, but integrate into the traditional culture of China on the basis of learning. "Chinese Seal Dancing Beijing" is a concentrated expression of China culture. Therefore, in China, the best works must have the traditional culture of China.

Work first and then start a business. Because there are many advertising companies now, it is quite difficult for newly graduated students to start their own businesses, not only because of their professional level, but also because of the lack of social relations, so don't rush to start their own businesses. The feasible way is to find a job first, on the one hand, exercise your design ability, strive to get ahead in the industry, and at the same time get on well with customers. When the level reaches, customers have it, and the dream of starting a business is not far away.
