There are two pronunciations of "da" in Shanghai dialect. How to distinguish them?

There are two kinds of big pronunciations, one is Du, which is commonly used in conventional usage, and the other is Da, which is similar to Mandarin. Both pronunciations are two tones.

The difference is that the former is more significant than the size, while the size of the latter is embedded in the phrase and cannot be removed.

Du's pronunciation means really big, such as size, big head, grown up, adults and children, big company, and most of these words have been replaced by small phrases.

There is also a representative ranking, such as uncle, uncle, uncle, uncle. In Shanghai, there used to be Mada Road, Erlu Ma Road and Masan Road.

The pronunciation of da is some specific nouns, such as Ambassador, Master, Tennis Masters Cup, Formula One Grand Prix and Grand Hotel. Here, big can't be replaced by small print.

There are also some unique characters or brands in Shanghai, such as Kai Daxing, staple food, Great World, and some shops that used to sell cloth are called Daxiang. The names of food companies also have big characters, as well as places such as Daxing Road, Minaminoooji and Dachang.
