How about Hengtai Hotel? Is it a good default comment?

I went to Shantou a few weeks ago, next to the Public Security Bureau. I'm not familiar with the geographical location, but I think it will take another 20 minutes to get to the traditional old town.

The first floor seems to be under renovation, and it smells very strong.
