Jianzhen

Jian Zhen [1] (June 25, 688-763), a monk in the Tang Dynasty, was born in Jiangyang, Guangling (now Yangzhou, Jiangsu), a descendant of the Nanshan School of Legalism, the founder of the Nanshan School of Japanese Buddhism [1] and a famous doctor. He once presided over the daming temple in Yangzhou, and at the request of Japanese monks studying abroad, he traveled eastward for six times to spread Buddhism, which promoted the spread and exchange of culture. On June 25th, 763 (the first year of Guangde), Jian Zhen died in Zhao Ti Temple in Tang Dynasty at the age of 76. Japanese people call Jian Zhen "Master Tianping", which means that his achievements are enough to represent the roof of Tianping culture (compared to the peak, the highest achievement).

He also made great achievements in Buddhist architecture and sculpture. According to "Journey to the West by the Tang River", Jian Zhen returned to Huainan to give a lecture. Every time between lectures, temples are built and countless statues of Buddha and Bodhisattva are made. In medicine, Boda is versatile and has excellent taste. He once presided over the Sada Hospital of Dayun Temple, treated patients and saved lives, personally prepared medicines for patients, and his medical skills were very high.
