1. Chinese New Year

People in Zhijiang area call “Spring Festival” “Celebration Festival”. The "New Year" in Zhiyi area takes a long time, starting from worshiping the Kitchen God on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month of the first year, and going through the "Little New Year", "Big New Year", "Shangjiu", "Lantern Festival", and until the "Chinese New Year" on the second day of February. The customs and activities of "Chinese New Year" are rich and colorful, which also reflects people's tireless desire for a prosperous life and good luck.

1. Worship "Master Siming" (sacrifice to the Stove God). The 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month is the birthday of "Master Siming". Some people say that Master Siming was originally a mortal. He was greedy for money, and some said he was greedy for sex. On the 23rd of the twelfth lunar month, he was so ashamed that he went into the kitchen hall and suffocated to death. Later, the Jade Emperor made him the Kitchen King (ie Master Siming), who could control good and bad luck, and people regarded the twelfth lunar month as the Stove King. The 23rd is his memorial day, so that he can "say good things from heaven and bring good luck to the earth". In order to hope that everything will go well during the "New Year", he burns paper and offers incense to "Master Siming" on this day to ask for his blessing. Some people also use big fish and meat as tributes to prepare for the "Little New Year" the next day.

2. Celebrating the Little New Year. The "Celebrating the New Year" starts on the 24th of the twelfth lunar month. The 24th day of the twelfth lunar month is called the "Little New Year". Folks regard "Celebrating the Little New Year" as the preparation stage for the "Celebrating the Big Year". , family members outside have to prepare to go home, and preparations for the year ahead start from this day. In the early morning of this day, people set off "firecrackers" to celebrate the new year. After the "New Year", women go into the kitchen to cook and cook. The whole family has a "reunion" at the table.
