What exactly does montage mean?
Montage, originally meant to constitute assembly, is a term used in architecture, which was later extended to "editing" in French after the invention of the film. In movies, the same shot and different splicing can express different meanings. That kind of montage is to show the movie story more intuitively by splicing shots. For example, when someone's thoughts and actions are not understood, they can be recalled and interspersed with things that caused this person's personality to change when he was a child. Finally, we can tell the reasons for the development of the story, so that the audience has a feeling of being suddenly enlightened. This can also make the film more layered and expressive. If you don't use montage, it means that someone is flawed because of something when he was a child, and then he is not understood. Such a film will be dull, without ups and downs and tension, and the audience will look bored. Now the forms of montage are varied, and montage is everywhere in life.
When making the earliest movies, a roll of film is often not enough to make a movie. When splicing films, it is found that films can be cut and glued with chemicals, and different effects can be shown through splicing, so montage was born. The birth of montage has greatly promoted the development of movies, getting rid of the shackles of narrative expression techniques in stage plays, and more shooting techniques are displayed with greater tension through editing.
