How to shoot the night scene with Apple mobile phone?

The camera function of Apple's mobile phone is becoming more and more powerful, but the quality of photos taken at night is not high due to objective reasons. So how should Apple set it when shooting at night? If you want to know, watch today's video.

This video was recorded by the ios 12 version of Apple's xs max mobile phone. First, open the setup options on the standby page.

Slide the screen down to find the camera option. After clicking Enter, turn on the intelligent HDR function to better shoot at night.

1. First, click the focus of the picture in the photo to adjust the focal length.

2. Press and hold the screen, and slide down to reduce the exposure and increase the purity of the screen.

3. The photos taken at this time are less noisy, but the brightness is not satisfactory. Don't worry, click on the top right corner of the photo to edit.

4. Select the small sun sign on the second right at the bottom of the picture, and check the light effect-brightness to increase the brightness of the picture.

Compared with taking pictures during the day, everyone thinks it is more difficult to take pictures with mobile phones at night.

The imaging light environment is complex, and the mobile phone hardware does not perform well in low light environment. In addition, due to a series of factors such as lack of stability and control restrictions, mobile phones seem to be everyone's tangled point at night.

But now the mobile phone has evolved a lot, both the sensor, the lens and the built-in algorithm have made great progress, and the effect of shooting directly with the camera is actually ok.

Compared with the progress of machines, many times the bad night scene is due to operational problems.

In this regard, Android users may have an advantage. There is a simple reason. At present, most Android phones are equipped with professional cameras with adjustable parameters, so that more things can be controlled at night and the shooting rate will be higher.

In contrast, the camera that comes with iOS is still "simple" as always. Don't talk about adjusting the shutter and iOS. Even if you want to call out the nine-grid dividing line to assist composition, the native camera of iOS needs to enter the "Settings" page of the machine to make adjustments. Too simplistic, this is its most embarrassing place.

Then this issue will focus on the iOS camera and share with you how to take a good night photo with a native camera.

What do you need to prepare?

1. Software section

For users who only use the iPhone with their own camera, there is really not much preparation in the early stage, especially the software preparation.

There is a simple reason. The camera that comes with iOS doesn't provide many functions. Users only need to turn on the split line mode for framing assistance. You must enter the camera in the settings, and then turn on the grid settings before you can display the grid-assisted composition in the camera. The operation is not difficult, and it is circuitous. It will be more convenient if you can put this function on the camera interface.

The camera application settings are incorrect. As long as you know that the iOS camera supports two operation modes: "long press to lock the focus" and "left clock button can start the countdown of selfie", there is basically no problem.

After all, iOS cameras don't support "professional mode", and users don't need to manually adjust parameters even if they want to shoot at night. You just need to press the shutter when the phone is stable, and you can actually meet the demand.

Next, let's talk about how to stabilize.

2. Auxiliary parts

Since this is a plan to share iPhone night shots, these additional things are basically for stability, and those wide-angle and telephoto additional lenses are not counted here. After all, those things are not necessary for shooting. When shooting at night, stability is the first factor.

Here, let me talk about the additional stabilization equipment. Some of them appeared in the last experience of Camera+ 2, but some friends are still unclear. So this time I will give a complete list:

Handrail fixing tool: clamp with 3/8 and 1/4 screws.

Tripod: Marsace MT-0 1/MT-05.

Mobile phone fixing clip: Marsace MPC-0 1

Spare tool: mobile phone ND filter

It feels like there are a lot of things here already. But in fact, if you just shoot the night scene yourself, you just need to choose a few of them.

Because most common shooting places, such as bridges and roadsides, have railings or stone piers that can be used for fixing. Therefore, if we only deal with the fixation of mobile phone photos, a tripod like Marsace A 15i, which can reach 1.5m, is unnecessary and inconvenient to move.

▲ Based on the principle of "convenience", we still don't recommend using large shelves.

In addition, it is convenient to take photos with mobile phones, so we still don't advocate using a slightly larger tripod like A 15i. But you can remove its central axis and use it as an extension tool.

For railings, I usually use clips to fix my mobile phone. There is generally no tripod head on the clip, so I usually directly remove the tripod head on MT-0 1 or MT-05 and connect it to the mobile phone clip for use.

A "desktop shelf" like MT-0 1 is mainly used to deal with roadside stone piles. For example, the stone handrails along the Pearl River in Guangzhou are relatively thick, and the general clamps and suction cups are not easy to clamp, so it is better to use a desktop shelf with a lower height on the square stone pier, which will be more convenient to move than the floor-standing type.

Of course, some tripods used for tabletops are also attached with binding straps, which is convenient for users to tie tripods to cylindrical handrails. However, it still takes some experience to tie a tripod, so it is more reliable for users who are unfamiliar or too troublesome to use clips.

There is also the "Octopus" tripod that is not mentioned this time, which can probably replace the combination of "clip+desktop bracket". But there are too many fakes on the market, so you should pay attention when choosing an octopus tripod.

Although the "mobile phone+mobile phone clip" is far less heavy than the camera, it is dangerous to clip it on bridges and rivers, so it is difficult to "recycle", so it is better to choose a stable one.

Steady first, then shoot.

Although it is said that you have to wear so many tools, in fact, the scene of taking pictures with your mobile phone at night is not much different from that during the day.

There are the most common street shots and wide-angle landscape shots, and there are also "portrait mode" to shoot some special effects. In addition, the light rail effect caused by traffic is also the most common way to take pictures at night. This time, we will share these four modes and talk about how these modes can take good-looking photos:

1. Street beat in the dim light

Ordinary street shooting is not much to say. Composition and shooting methods are basically the same as during the day, as long as you know how to avoid the influence of night lighting.

In addition, it should be emphasized that the most important thing to take pictures at night is stability, because the light at night is basically not as sufficient as during the day, and the exposure time required by the camera will be longer than during the day. In this case, you need to spend more time stabilizing the camera when taking pictures, and just hold it steady when taking pictures.

In a bus with obvious bumps, the shutter time will be further lengthened if it encounters a weak light environment. Although mobile phones now have optical anti-shake structure, it still can't make you feel more at ease. So find a stable position at this time, and it will be more reliable to take pictures when it is stable.

When you are in the street at night, you can also use the "portrait mode" to make a blur effect, which is actually good with the halo of the spot simulated by the street lamp.

▲ Portrait mode shooting requires shooting distance and perspective effect.

However, it should be noted that the telephoto lens of the iPhone is equivalent to a field of view of 56mm, and the physical focal length is still very short. At this time, it may be strange to combine the fuzzy simulation with the perspective of the picture. The iOS camera does not have the function of blur simulation adjustment, and it can only rely on people to control the shooting distance and post-cropping, making the picture more natural.

Of course, this is just a simulation photo with a large aperture. The actual aperture has not changed, nor has the amount of light. In this case, the photo should remain stable.

2. Night view

Yes, stability always comes first when taking pictures at night or in poor light. It is also for this reason that I spent so much time talking about fixed equipment at first.

However, in the environment of street shooting, this fixing device does not have much effect. The place that can really make the fixed equipment shine is actually when shooting the scenery.

If you want to take a picture of the bridge with a wide view, the photographer needs to choose a fixed point according to his own composition needs. Although the fixed structure has certain adjustment space, it is fixed on the wall and railing, and its activity is limited.

One more thing, if the fixed location is close to the road, the photographer should also pay attention to the influence of fixed tools on the traffic flow. If people like me use an extended fast-loading board, try not to extend the structure to the road, otherwise it will be very dangerous.

When determining the fixed selection point with composition, you can take a picture with the camera first. If you are not sensitive to composition, you can use your own camera to open the framing auxiliary frame, which will make composition more convenient.

After the composition is selected, you can shoot directly, but in order to avoid the vibration caused by clicking the shutter from affecting the photo, you can start the "selfie countdown" at this time, and setting it to three seconds is actually enough.

If you happen to capture a scene that needs to be captured, you can also capture it with your mobile phone continuous shooting. This is different from ordinary shooting. Try not to use physical keys to operate. It would be better to use the shutter button on the screen. After all, whether it is the "self-timer countdown" that replaces the traditional "playing" or the continuous shooting, the main purpose is to reduce the impact of the vibration generated by the control on the shooting, and finally stabilize the shooting.

Another point is that the cameras that come with iOS basically adopt the spot metering mode of linkage focusing. If the focus point selected during shooting is a dark spot, the overall exposure will be improved.

At this time, it is necessary to press and hold the lock exposure and focus after focusing, and then adjust the exposure according to the site environment. More often, photographers need to reduce exposure to reduce the impact of overexposure on the picture.

3. Car towing cable track

In addition to night shooting, there is another kind of shooting that can be done at night, that is, the light track.

However, because the camera that comes with iOS can't adjust the shutter time by itself, it should not be able to shoot people's fiber-optic graffiti like cameras or other apps, but it can also shoot traffic to make it have a little light painting effect.

The method is the same, press the mobile phone on the railing on the edge of the road or on the edge of the footbridge. We really need to pay attention to safety here. The fixed shooting structure cannot affect driving, and the fixed equipment must be checked before use.

After all this is done, you can put your mobile phone on it and shoot it. However, because the built-in camera of iOS can't adjust the shutter time by itself, we have to use some special methods to slow down the shutter speed, and the nd filter is used here.

Now there are some mobile phone ND filters similar to the external lens, such as P 1 Kit produced by NiSi, which is a kind of ND filter that can be fixed on the mobile phone. After installation, the shutter speed can be slowed down, and if it is at night and in low light environment, it can really shoot some light track effects.

If you don't have an ND filter for your mobile phone, you can use a camera. The photographer only needs to "hold" the filter in front of the camera lens and wait for the shooting to end. Of course, keep a fixed distance when shooting, and don't touch the mobile phone. In this case, it would be better to turn on the "selfie countdown".
