About "Geographic Information Technology"

GIS research in China began in the early 1980s, marked by the establishment of the first National Geographic Information System Laboratory by 1980 Institute of Remote Sensing Application, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Throughout its development process, it can also be summarized into four stages:

1 preparatory stage (1978 ~ 1980)

From 65438 to 0978, China carried out reform and opening up, which accelerated academic and technical exchanges with advanced western countries. At this time, geographic information industry was introduced into China. However, due to the reasons of talents, technology, equipment and funds, the conditions for developing GIS are not yet mature, so this stage is mainly to carry out public opinion propaganda, make suggestions, form teams and organize personal experimental research.

2 initial stage (1980 ~ l985)

Starting from 1980, the Institute of Remote Sensing Application of Chinese Academy of Sciences established the first GIS laboratory in China, and the GIS in China began to develop formally. A series of theoretical explorations and regional studies have been carried out, and national GIS norms have been formulated. By 1985, the national laboratory of resources and environmental information system was established. In recent years, China has been carrying out theoretical exploration, hardware configuration, software development, specification formulation and regional experimental research.

3 development stage (1985 ~ L995)

During this period, the research of geographic information system, as a government action, was formally included in the national science and technology public relations plan, and scientific research, applied experiments and engineering construction were carried out in a planned, organized and targeted manner. GIS has entered a period of rapid development, and a number of databases have been established nationwide. Developed a series of spatial information processing and mapping software; Some geographical models and basic expert systems with in-depth analysis and application are established. A number of GIS professional scientific research teams have emerged in China, and research centers and laboratories of different levels and sizes have been established. Some comprehensive, regional and thematic geographic information systems have been completed. At the same time, he published works on GIS theory, technology and application, actively carried out international cooperation and participated in global GIS discussions and experiments.

4 industrialization stage (after 1996)

During the Ninth Five-Year Plan (1996~2000), the former State Science and Technology Commission listed GIS as an independent subject in the "Top Priority" scientific and technological research plan, and gave it full attention and support. The development speed of technology is obviously accelerated, the technical support of GIS basic software is comprehensively strengthened, and a large number of domestic GIS software with independent copyright has appeared. For example, SuperMap of Beijing SuperMap Company, Geogtar of Wuhan Gio Company, MapGIS of Wuhan Aofa Company, Citystar of Peking University, Founder Zhihui of Peking University, etc. China's GIS industrialization model has taken shape.
