Why doesn't the twilight yarn get wet?

Cann't bake with fire, can't bake with water.

Twilight yarn, also known as Xiangyun yarn and yam yarn, is a kind of silk fabric dyed with plant dye Dioscorea cirrhosa. It is the only silk fabric dyed with pure plant dye in the world and is praised as "soft gold" by the textile industry.

There have been records about Dioscorea cirrhosa in the Tang Dynasty, and Shen Kuo in the Northern Song Dynasty and Li Shizhen in the Ming Dynasty both described the dyeing effect of Dioscorea cirrhosa. The sericulture and reeling industry in Shunde District, Foshan City has a long history and is known as the "Silk Capital of the South China", which completely preserves the dyeing and finishing skills of Xiangyun yarn. During Yongle period of Ming Dynasty, Guangdong gamboge yarn has been exported to foreign countries.

Muyun yarn has many advantages, such as cool and soft, good light fastness, good washing fastness, strong waterproof, easy to wash and dry, light and wrinkle-resistant, soft and bone-rich, durable and so on. It is suitable for wearing in hot summer and is well received by consumers. It has been exported to Europe, America, India, Nanyang and other places, and has been praised as "black shining pearl" by overseas people, becoming a famous silk product in China.

Origin environment

Shunde is the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta with a long history. It is a famous "sugarcane and mulberry fish pond" at home and abroad, and a model of harmonious circular ecology. The fish in the pond feed on grass, and the excrement of the fish accumulates at the bottom of the pond. Mud mixed in the pond is the best fertile soil for perennial sugarcane and mulberry.

Sugarcane-sweet, crisp and juicy, mulberry-soft and green. Sugarcane leaves, mulberry leaves, grass on sugarcane base and mulberry base can all feed fish, which is a harmonious circular ecology.

Shunde is close to the mouth of the Pearl River system, and the main rivers Xijiang and Beijiang gush out from the mountainous area between Guangxi and Hunan, passing through hundreds of miles of relatively gentle hilly areas.

It reaches Zhongshan, Nanhai and Shunde, and at the same time, the main stream is divided into numerous tributaries, forming a criss-crossing river network with a slow flow rate. The silt-free layer of fine sand under the river bed gradually deposited, forming one of the most important raw materials in the rich drying technology of Ranunculus ternatus-"river mud".

At the same time, the river banks are mostly flat, and grass can be planted everywhere, forming the main place for drying Ranunculus-"drying the ground". Dioscorea cirrhosa, another main raw material for drying yam, can be seen everywhere in Gaoyao, Lubu and Xinxing foothills. By the early years of the Republic of China, there were more than 300 tanning workshops in Shunde (Lunjiao).
