What is industrial design?

Industrial design, abbreviated as ID. Refers to industrial product design based on engineering, aesthetics and economics.

Industrial design can be divided into four categories: product design, environmental design, communication design and design management. Including modeling design, mechanical design, clothing design, environmental planning, interior design, UI design, graphic design, packaging design, advertising design, display design, website design, etc. Industrial design, also called industrial product design, involves psychology, sociology, aesthetics, ergonomics, mechanical structure, photography, chromatics and so on. Industrial design brought by industrial development and division of labor is obviously different from other arts, production activities, craft production and so on. It is the cross product of various disciplines, technologies and aesthetic concepts. ICSID (International Council of Industrial Design Societies): Industrial design is a creative activity, whose purpose is to establish various qualities for goods, processes, services and their systems throughout the life cycle.

IDSA (American Association of Industrial Designers): Industrial design is a special service work, which optimizes the shape, function and use value of products and product series to benefit both users and producers.

ICSID defines industrial design as: as far as mass-produced industrial products are concerned, with the help of training, technical knowledge, experience, visual and psychological feelings, the products are endowed with new quality and specifications in terms of materials, structure, structure, modeling, color, surface treatment and decoration.

"Industrial design" should not be literally translated as "industrial design", but translated as "industrial design" in Japan and South Korea. Perhaps it is because of this comprehensive and in-depth understanding that industrial design has developed smoothly in Japan and South Korea. [ 1]

In the era of "Big Data" and "Internet", great changes have taken place in industrial structure, economic structure and production relations, and new forms of social services are constantly emerging. Under the background of "international strategic layout" and "social form" in the future, design should be understood as "design industry" for designing new industries, and the innovative concept of "shared service design" should be used to meet the social innovation challenge of "shared service economy".
