The deeds of Bethune

1, childhood Bethune

1890 On March 3rd, Henry Norman Bethune was born into a pastor's family in Gravenhurst, a small town in northern Ontario. Bethune took risks from an early age. At the age of six, Bethune went to Toronto to play alone, far away from the town. He got lost, but he didn't cry.

When the police sent him home and his mother criticized him, he said, "I want to taste the adventure." Once, he took his brother to climb a mountain and found a beautiful butterfly. He chased and chased until he caught it at the top of the mountain, scaring his younger brother who was waiting at the foot of the mountain to cry.

At the age of eight, Bethune caught sparrows and flies, dissected them and became a surgeon like his grandfather. He is also an expert in swimming. 10 years old, he wanted to swim across Zigia Bay.

2. People's blood bank

From June 65438 to June 0938, Bethune taught blood transfusion technology in the rear hospital of Songyankou Military Region in Wutai County, Shanxi Province. "Blood transfusion" was a relatively new technology at that time, and only a few hospitals in big cities in China could carry it out. Blood transfusion under field medical conditions is something that people dare not think about.

Bethune first described in detail the basic knowledge of blood collection operation, standard blood type making, blood type identification, blood matching test, storage, transportation and custody, and then recommended Ye Qingshan, a 32-year-old minister of health, as the first blood donor.

After testing the blood type, Bethune let Ye Qingshan lie on the bed, let the patient's head and feet face each other, and took out a simple blood transfusion device. Catheters with needles are connected to the veins of their left and right arms, and there is a three-way valve in the middle of the catheter, which is connected to a syringe. Bethune opened the valve for Minister Ye, pulled out the needle, and red blood flowed into the syringe. Then open the valve and blood will flow into the patient.

Warmly applauded, battlefield blood transfusion is the first success in the history of Chinese army field surgery. When the second patient arrived, Bethune took the initiative to lie next to the patient and refused to say, "I am type O blood, take mine." Bethune was praised by the masses as "the blood bank of the masses".

3. Flood fighting and emergency rescue

1July, 1939, the continuous rainstorm for more than ten days caused the water level of Tanghe River to skyrocket, and the flooding affected Shenbei Village, Wanxian County, Hebei Province. Several fellow villagers clung to him and wouldn't let him take risks. Bethune sighed helplessly. The flood threatened the safety of the health school, and the superior decided to move the school to Hexi Rock. Bethune immediately found the school and asked to join the commando.

There is no ferry, so people use carrots to tie ladders as transportation. Bethune and the boys of the commando team jumped into the water, and ten people were in a row, arm in arm, carrying materials back and forth from trip to trip.

4, inventor Bethune-rib scissors

Rib scissors were inspired by Bethune when he repaired shoes. Once Bethune went to repair his shoes, and the shoemaker finished the last process, so he could put scissors in and cut the thread inside without opening his shoes.

Bethune believed that if scissors could be used in surgery, there would be no need to open the chest to cut sutures or ribs. Just touch it with your hands and cut it with scissors, so the rib scissors were born.

5. The death of Bethune?

1939, 10 year128 October, Japanese soldiers carried out a crazy "winter mopping-up" plan and started a crazy battle against the base areas. At that time, the sentry in China was urging Dr. Bethune to finish the operation and evacuate as soon as possible. At such a tense moment, Bethune accidentally pricked his finger while saving the wounded. As a doctor, he reacted quickly and put his hand into the disinfectant for disinfection.

Although he knew that if he didn't handle the wound properly, he might be in danger of being infected, but he couldn't take care of himself first, and he couldn't insist on handling the wounded's wound first in wartime. By this time, Bethune had been infected. Later, his fingers became inflamed first, and the inflammation became more and more serious.

In a blink of an eye, on June 1 65438+1October1day, Bethune once again rescued a wounded person on the operating table, who suffered from severe infectious inflammation. Although Bethune was in danger of fatal infection when he came into contact with patients himself, he still insisted on saving people first. Unfortunately, this treatment did reinfect his own inflamed fingers, and it was more serious.

Later, his finger was inflamed and hurt terribly. He insisted on having 13 operations and writing an outline of a lecture on malaria treatment. Finally, on the 7th, Bethune, who saved lives all his life, collapsed in a hospital bed.

Not only did finger inflammation aggravate and spread, but it also continued to have a high fever. Finally, he told himself that he was diagnosed with septicemia. 12, Bethune died before dawn.
