What's the difference between a central shutter and a focal plane shutter?

The biggest difference between the center shutter and the focal plane shutter is the "position". The central shutter, also called the "inter-mirror shutter", is set inside the lens (that is, it is a part of the lens). Widely used in the field of medium format cameras and the mid-film era, the shutter speed has been almost completely eliminated because of its low speed, and the fastest is only 1/500 seconds. The focal plane shutter is set on the focal plane of the camera (inside the camera body), and its shape is similar to a curtain. It is a new shutter, which is adopted by modern cameras. The fastest speed can reach 1/8000 seconds, or even faster.
