(1) Under the WindowsXP operating system, click Start → All Programs → Accessories → Drawing to open the drawing software window.

(2) Click the "From Scanner or Camera" command on the file menu bar to pop up the scanner window.

(3) Windows have four options, corresponding to the type of manuscript we want to scan. If you want to scan a color photo, please select the "Color Photo" item, put the photo in the scanner, cover it, and then click the "Preview" button. To realize character recognition, OCR character recognition software should be installed in addition to the scanner driver and scanner application software.

First, the manuscript should be scanned and then identified. Generally speaking, there are the following steps:

(1) Scan files. In order to use OCR software for character recognition, you can scan the manuscript directly in OCR software. After running the OCR soft servant, the OCR software interface will appear.

Place the manuscript to be scanned on the glass surface of the scanner, so that the side to be scanned faces the glass surface of the scanner, with the tip of the manuscript facing down and aligned with the edge of the ruler, and then cover the scanner for scanning. Click the "Scan" button in the window to enter the scanning driver software for scanning, and its operation method is similar to scanning pictures. The scanned document image appears in the OCR software window.

(2) Scale the picture appropriately. After scanning the document, the picture of the text to be recognized that just appeared in the window is very small. First, select the "Enlarge" tool to enlarge the picture appropriately to make it clearer. If necessary, you can also select the Reduce tool to reduce the screen appropriately.

(3) Adjust the picture. All kinds of OCR software provide rotation function, so that the picture can be rotated at any angle. If the text screen is tilted, you can choose the Tilt Correction tool or the Rotation tool to adjust the screen.

(4) Select the recognition area. When recognizing, select the "Set Recognition Area" tool to frame the area to be recognized on the text screen. At this time, you can also frame multiple areas according to the screen situation. If it is full-text recognition, there is no need to set the recognition area.

(5) recognize the text. Click the "recognize" command, then OCR will segment the text first, and then recognize it, and the recognized text will be gradually displayed. After the general appraisal is completed, turn to the "manuscript proofreading" window.

(6) proofreading of manuscripts. All kinds of OCR software provide the function of proofreading and revising manuscripts. Possible wrong words are identified, displayed in bright colors, and can be modified. Some software's text proofreading tools can provide several words with similar glyphs to choose from.

(7) save the file. Users can store the recognized file as a text (TXT) file of Word or an RTF file.
