How to do time-lapse photography, scene selection and camera setting in the Milky Way at night

Galaxy time-lapse photography, also known as star-orbit time-lapse photography, generally requires clear weather, good air permeability and more time for the stars, so you can generally choose a place with higher altitude, of course, it is also possible in cities, which require higher air quality and less terrain. Camera settings need door B, ready for ND filter and lock release, stopwatch and stable tripod, lock release will be discussed below.

The scene requires the ground scene to have a certain illumination, which is higher than the sky, usually 1.5 to 3 times. The ground scenery is basically fixed and invincible, such as stones or some tree trunks with few branches and leaves, to avoid the phenomenon that the shutter speed is too slow when shooting, so as to avoid the visual discomfort of human eyes. The ground scenery should not be too big, which will cause too much occlusion of the star orbit.

Prepare to shoot. Choose the position of the tripod, because the shutter speed is too slow, so the tripod must be stable. You can choose heavy objects such as stones on the spot and try to hold down the tripod to avoid the wind.

Camera settings. Adjust the sensitivity to the lowest level. B-door exposure, the photo format is RAW, the lens is manually focused to adjust the focal length, and the lens is added with a neodymium mirror to make the exposure time reach 10 minute. Grey mirror can add more. Note that domestic or low-end neodymium mirrors will change the color temperature, which hardly exists in high-end neodymium mirrors. If the funds are limited, you can call back later, which is why you choose the RAW format. Connect and lock the cable release. Look at the shutter opening on the shutter line and lock the shutter at the same time. Look at the time. When it is time to unlock the shutter, the exposure is over. This kind of time-lapse photography, the requirement of time interval is not so strict, and the next shooting can be directly carried out after the exposure is stored. Because of the error of exposure time, exposure smoothing can be done in LRT in the future.

Galaxy photography can't be done once or twice. Be patient, try a few more times and keep summing up.
