Kunming Metallurgy College, formerly known as Gejiu Mining Technical School, was founded in 1952. 1954 moved to Kunming, and 1958 was renamed Kunming Nonferrous Metals Industry School. 1978 was established as a junior college, and 1985 was upgraded to Yunnan Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
