Data show that in 2012, the number of Baleno stores reached a historical peak, and the number of Baleno stores in mainland China reached a historical peak. For 4044 households. But the good times did not last long. Just two years later, Baleno encountered a "tide of store closures."
According to the latest financial report released by Deyongjia, the parent company of Baleno, in the past year, Deyongjia has closed 465 stores in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. As of the end of March 2014, the number of stores closed in the mainland market was as high as 388, accounting for 10% of the total number of stores.
Behind the large number of store closures is the decline in Baleno’s performance year after year. As of the end of March 2014, Baleno's net sales were HK$2.754 billion, a decrease of 9.34% compared with the same period last year. The performance of its parent company Deyongjia was also unsatisfactory. As of the end of March 2014, the group's total revenue decreased by 12.4% to HK$9.86 billion, a decrease of 12.37% from the same period last year.
Deyongjia stated that the decline in the group's retail business performance was due to the continued sluggish consumer demand in mainland China, and many local dealers continued to significantly reduce prices to control excessive inventory.
