Why do you want to narrow the aperture when shooting at night?

Reducing the aperture (F8~ 1 1) has two purposes: 1. So as to obtain greater depth of field; 2. Get the starlight effect of the light.

However, it needs to cooperate with a long exposure time, and the shutter speed is generally slow (a fraction of a second to more than ten seconds). During exposure, the degree of underexposure should be controlled at 1/3.

It is recommended not to shoot under very dark street lights, otherwise you will get yellow photos and the picture will be ugly.

The best time to shoot is at sunset, when the sky is still bright. When the street lamps are just turned on, there is a dark blue sky, natural light, lights and their starry sky effects, which is beautiful.

In addition, it should be noted that whether the exposure is sufficient depends on the combination of aperture and exposure time, not just on a parameter of aperture.

Taking a night scene with a large aperture, under a proper exposure time, the light will turn into a fuzzy ball in the photo, which has no Starlight Glimmer effect.
