The plot summary of Glass Island

The story takes place on Hato Island in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. There are only 49 residents here. The only public facility is an elementary school. Due to the lack of students, Hato Sea Elementary School will be closed in a few days. If it is abolished, Jiuhai Island, with an average age of 63.5 years old, is likely to become an uninhabited island in the future. In order to prevent their hometown from becoming a desert island, the islanders urgently need their children to come here to go to school.

Islander Nakama Yuzo (played by Ken Ogata) came to Tokyo. He wanted to take his seven-year-old grandson back to Hatokai to go to school, but he had to give up due to his daughter's firm opposition. Soon, Yuzo met a girl named Fujisawa Ruri (played by Narumi Riko) on the streets of Tokyo. The eleven-year-old Ruri's father had passed away and she was fostered in an orphanage by her mother. Her mother ignored Liuli, which made Liuli develop a rebellious personality. After obtaining Liuli's mother's consent, Yongzao took Liuli back to the island.

When the islanders heard that there were children coming to school here, they rushed to the shore to welcome Liuli, but it didn’t take long for everyone to understand Liuli’s rebellious character. Because Teacher Sanae (played by Konishi Manami) of Hatokai Elementary School asked Ruri to straighten her curly hair, Ruri lost her temper and jumped on a small boat in an attempt to leave the island. As a result, Ruri, who could not sail a boat, almost died. Fortunately, a man rescued her. Ashore. The man calls himself Kawashima Tatsuya (played by Yutaka Takenouchi) and is a hairdresser from Tokyo. Kawashima told Liuli that he wanted to commit suicide because seeing her fall into the water and struggling to rescue her made him forget about suicide. Kawashima cuts Liuli's hair, and Liuli begins to welcome the new life on the island with a new look. Like Liuli, Kawashima is also reborn here.
