What is the movie "The Promise" about?

The film tells the story of a poor child who was blessed by the goddess of fate and became the most beautiful princess in the world, but fate cursed her that she would never get true love. The humble Kunlun slave really loved her and gave her the right to choose again at the expense of her own life. The process of getting true love is not so smooth. Princess Qingcheng will also have an earth-shattering love struggle between Wu Huan, the Northern Duke, General Guangming and the slave Kunlun.

The Promise is an action film directed by Chen Kaige and starring Zhang Dongjian, Hiroyuki Sanada, Cecilia Cheung, Nicholas Tse and Liu Ye. The film was released in China on February 5th, 2005.
