Fauci spent 18 years with gorillas.

Recently, in the Hawaiian hawaii volcanoes national park in Virunga, people used traditional dances and speeches to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of American female zoologist Dian Fossey. Fauci lived with gorillas in the African jungle for 18 years, but unfortunately he was killed in 1985. Hollywood movies based on her experience attract thousands of tourists to Rwanda to watch gorillas every year.

Pay three years in advance to see African gorillas.

Fauci worked in a children's hospital in Kentucky, USA. Desiring to know more about the outside world, she paid for a trip to Africa in advance for the next three years, and what attracted her was the archaeological excavation of Dr. Louis Leakey, a paleoanthropologist, and the gorillas in Virunga Volcano Group in Central Africa.

1963, Fauci visited the excavation site of Dr. Leakey's East African site and accidentally slipped on a steep slope and sprained his ankle. Despite his ankle injury, Fauci is determined to complete his plan to observe the great apes in Virunga. Two weeks later, she staggered up a volcano more than 3000 meters high and caught her first glimpse of the gorilla.

Later, Fauci wrote in her book Gorilla in the Fog: "We peeked through the cracks in the trees, and several equally curious primates were peeking at us. They have black leather faces, and their huge bodies are spectacular, which immediately touched me deeply. "

Have your appendix removed and camp in the jungle.

1966, when Dr. Li Ji went to Kentucky to give a lecture tour, he met Fauci again and asked her if she would like to study apes for a long time. After Fauci agreed, Li Ji joked that she might as well have her appendix removed just in case, because she could not find the hospital where she was going to work. Unexpectedly, Fauci had an appendectomy.

1In the second half of 966, Fauci came to Africa again. The jungle of Virunga Volcano Group is cold, dark and muddy. The camp is more than 3000 meters above sea level, and the air is thin, which often makes Fauci, who has suffered from asthma since childhood, unable to breathe. Despite the harsh environment, Fauci soon devoted himself to the pursuit of great apes. At first, she followed them secretly. Later, she changed her strategy and announced her existence to gorillas by imitating their voices. After 6 months, she can observe them from 9 meters away.

But the ferocity of gorillas sometimes scares Fauci. One day, the photographer of National Geographic magazine wanted to take a picture of Fauci and the gorilla. When Fauci was only 12 meters away from the gorilla, the leader of this group of gorillas suddenly rushed at her, followed by four other gorillas. They screamed horribly at Fauci for half an hour, which really shocked Fauci.

Close contact with gorillas, be elated

As time went on, Fauci learned how to get close to gorillas without scaring them, and several gorillas got used to close contact with her. Fauci's favorite male orangutan, Digit, will play with her hair and even comfort her when she is depressed.

One day, it was raining outside, and Fauci went to visit her familiar gorilla as usual. In the misty jungle, she felt cold and lonely. Suddenly, a pair of warm arms around her, she looked up and saw Digit's warm and gentle brown eyes. It patted her on the head and sat down beside her. Later, Fauci wrote to Dr. Leakey and said, "Every time I am only one foot (30 cm) away from them, I will be elated."

Fight poachers and save gorillas.

1978 On New Year's Day, Digit was brutally killed by poachers. Six months later, a gorilla family that Fauci knew very well was also killed. Since then, Fauci has declared war on poachers. She organized an anti-poaching patrol, offered a reward for catching poachers and asked the students who worked for her to carry guns.

But some people claim that Fauci is waging a "war" instead of conducting research. On February 26th, 1985, 1985, Fauci was found killed in a hut in the camp. Some people suspect that the murderer is a poacher, but so far the whereabouts of the murderer have not been found. Fauci died and was buried next to her beloved gorilla. Her tombstone reads: "No one loves gorillas like her."

Dian Fossey, Jane Goodall and Bi Ludi Gao Dickas, three female zoologists, have made unremitting efforts to protect orangutans for a long time. Jane goodall, a British female scientist, has been studying chimpanzees alone in the African jungle since she was 26 years old. Her research has reversed many misunderstandings about chimpanzees. Cass, a highland in Canada, focuses on orangutan research and saves smuggled orangutans.
