Hummingbird information

Hummingbird (scientific name Trochilidae) belongs to Swift Hummingbird family. It is very small and can hover in the air by flapping its wings quickly (15 to 80 times per second, depending on the size of the bird). It is also the only bird that can fly backwards.

Mellisuga helenae weighs only 1.8g, making it the smallest bird in the world. There is also a typical North American hummingbird, Archilochus colubris, which weighs about 3 grams and is 7.6 centimeters long. The largest hummingbird is Patagona gigas, weighing only 20 grams. Hummingbirds are also called "God Birds", "Comets", "Goddess of the Forest" and "Corolla" because of their superb flying skills.
