Introduction to Oscar Awards

Best film award (best film award)

The awards have not changed from 1 to the 57th session, only the number of nominated films is more or less. The seventh session is the largest, with nominated films 12. From 5th to 16, more than 10 films were nominated. Since then, each best film has been selected from five nominated films.

Best performance award (best performance award)

The award is divided into four categories: Best Actor and Actress Award, Best Supporting Actor Award and Best Supporting Actress Award. At the earliest, there were only two awards for best performance: supporting actor and supporting actress, and it only started from the 9th session of 1936.

Best Director Award (Best Director Award)

The award was nominated by all members of the Directors Association of America, and was finally voted by the current directors of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Best screenplay award

The awards are divided into two categories: the screenplay creation award and the screenplay adaptation award. Their nominations and final votes are the same as the best director award. After several changes, starting from 1957, the script award was changed to "best script creation" and "best script adaptation".

Best cinematography award

This award has not changed much in the past 50 years. 1938 Before 1 1, there was only one photography award. From 1939 to 1956, it is divided into black and white and color. To 1957, the two are merged into a photography award. The following year is divided into black and white and color. By 1967, the above classification was gradually cancelled due to the sharp decrease in black and white film production. Since then, there has been only one photography award.

BEST SOUND AWARD (Best Sound Award)

This award, from 1 to the 30th, is called the recording award. Since the 30th session 1958, it has been changed to sound award.

BEST SCORE AWARD (Best Score Award)

Because American people advocate singing and dancing, they have made outstanding achievements in various Oscar awards.

The awards are divided into three categories: best composition, best score and best song. Among them, the song sub-item has not changed since the establishment of 1934. It was awarded the theme song of a large feature film, including words and music.

Best art director-scenery decoration award.

The full name of the Best Artist Award is the Best Art Director-Set Installation Award. The so-called artistic director refers to the design of the scenery and props of the film. The award was once divided into black and white, but since 1967, the two awards have been merged to create only one award.

Best Visual Effect Award (Best Visual Effect Award)

The award is awarded to those who have made outstanding achievements in creating visual effects by using mechanical, electronic technology, optical processing and animation technology. Awards start from 1939 and start from 1963, and are divided into visual effect awards and sound effect awards. The sound effect award was cancelled on 1968, leaving only one visual effect award.

Best fashion design award

The award was pre-selected, nominated and finally voted by the fashion designers of the Art Guidance Department.

Fashion Design Award has not changed much since 1948 was established. Only before 1957, there are black and white and color. Later, it was divided several times and merged from 1967 into a fashion design award.

Best Editing Award (Best Editing Award)

This award has not changed since the establishment of 1934. The selection method is the same as the photography award. Since the 52nd session, the Best Sound Editing Award and the Best Sound Editing Award have appeared again.

Best makeup award

The award has been set since the 54th session.

Best foreign language film award.

The award is awarded to large-scale audio feature films produced by non-English speaking countries. But a country can only nominate one. Nominated works shall be selected by secret ballot, with 5 nominations per session, and the nominees may send representatives to attend the award ceremony. Films from English-speaking countries are not allowed to participate in the selection.

Best short film award

This award refers to 35MM film with a length less than 3,000 feet. There are animated short films and live-action short films.

Best documentary award (best documentary award)

The awards are divided into two categories: long documentary awards and short documentary awards. The former awards 35mm, 16mm or 70mm documentaries with a length exceeding 3,000 feet; The latter awards 35mm, 16mm or 70mm documentaries with a length less than 3,000 feet. According to the regulations, these three kinds of documentaries must reflect major themes in culture, art, history, society, science, economy or other fields, and shoot real people and stories.

After reviewing all the films, the documentary award jury selected 3-5 ministers and short documentaries as the final nominated films.

honorable mention

Honor Award is one of the most important special awards. Its predecessor was the special prize, which was produced in the 1 session. Starting from 1950, it was renamed as honorary award.

This award is awarded to individuals or groups who have made outstanding contributions to film production or engaged in fruitful activities for Academy of Motion Picture AMPAS and Sciences for a long time.

Irving G. Talberg Memorial Award

Owen Salberg (1899 ~ 1936) is a famous Hollywood producer, who has supervised many business cards. He died at the age of 37, and the college set up a memorial prize named after him. This award has not changed since the establishment of 1937. He was awarded by the college board of directors as a producer who "has been engaged in film production and played a highly talented role". There is only one winner in each session, and only those who are fully qualified can be selected. Due to the lack of suitable candidates, several vacancies have appeared.

Jean-Herr Choltes Humanitarian Prize.

Joan Chotes (1886 ~ 1956), one of the founders of the college, was the president of 1 1, and made great efforts to extricate the college from its predicament. In memory of him, this award has not changed since 1956 was founded. It is decided by the college board to award "film professionals who have made humanitarian efforts to bring credibility to the film industry", stipulating that there is only one winner in each session, and only those who are fully qualified can be evaluated. As there are no suitable candidates, several positions are vacant.
