1999 movie "On the Road"

The movie "On the Road" that records the history of the dividing line between North and South Korea:

This is a movie that was filmed in Panmunjeom from the early days of the split between North and South Korea. In May 1999, the film started in Auschwitz, Poland. In July of the same year, the film crew went to Germany and filmed at the Berlin Wall, which had been isolated for about 30 years.

The climax of the film is set in the poetry recitation scene at Panmunjom (the dividing line between North and South Korea).

On June 7, 1999, less than 2 meters away from the military demarcation line of Panmunjom, Moon Geun-young, the teenage protagonist of the movie, was alone, gazing back and forth between the north and south sides of Panmunjom and reciting free verse.

The poem carries the title of the wish for border reunification, hoping that Panmunjom can be reconciled and integrated at some point, and stop hindering the connection of the traditional north-south roads.

At the time of filming, it not only attracted domestic attention in South Korea, but also received comprehensive attention from global media including CNN.

The film's international response:

The film was invited to the "Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland" and the "Montreal International Film Festival in Canada".

It premiered in South Korea at the 2nd Jeonju Film Festival (April 27th to May 3rd) in 2001.

It was later screened at the "Tokyo International Women's Film Festival" (October 28-30, 2001, Tokyo Women's Plaza).

Also invited by the 21st "Hawaii International Film Festival" (November 2-11, 2001).
