Lu Xun Art Institute was a comprehensive literature and art school founded by the Communist Party of China during the Anti-Japanese War to cultivate anti-Japanese literary and art cadres and literary and art workers. After 1940, it was renamed "Lu Xun Art Institute" "College of Liberal Arts", referred to as "Lu Yi".

The old site is located in Qiaoergou, 5 kilometers northeast of Yan'an City. It is a medieval castle-style auditorium where a unique and charming masquerade party is held every New Year. There is a Catholic church and dozens of stone cave dwellings currently preserved. It is among the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units promulgated by the State Council in 1961.

School Introduction

Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, referred to as "Lu Mei", is located in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. It is the only multi-disciplinary and multi-academic higher art institution in Northeast China. It is one of the eight major art academies in China and a key first-class university in Liaoning Province. The school has been rated as a national cultural quality education base for college students by the Ministry of Education, a demonstration base for red classic art education in colleges and universities, and a Chinese literary and art public opinion information research base by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.

The school’s predecessor was the Lu Xun Art Institute built in Yan’an in 1938, which was personally initiated and founded by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and others. In 1945, Yan'an Luyi School moved to Northeast China. In 1958, it developed into Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts.

As of July 2016, the school has two campuses in Shenyang and Dalian. The campus covers a total area of ??957,662.94 square meters, and the library has a building area of ??10,887 square meters and a collection of 592,073 books. It has 17 teaching units and offers 16 undergraduate majors. There are 856 teachers and 7967 students, including 7135 undergraduates, 507 graduate students and 20 international students.
