The Department of Industrial Design was established in 1984. At the beginning, the major of industrial design (now the major of product design) was established. 199 1 established the exhibition design major, and in 200 1 added the vehicle modeling design major, forming a multi-level industrial design teaching system with four-year undergraduate courses, two to three-year general master courses, master courses in industrial design engineering and doctoral courses in industrial design research under art design. Industrial design is a key subject of the Ministry of Education.

As one of the earliest institutions offering industrial design teaching in China, our department has made a long-term and beneficial exploration in establishing an industrial design teaching system in line with China's national conditions. The industrial design syllabus of 199 1 won the second prize of excellent teaching and scientific research achievements in Beijing universities, which became one of the important reference bases for industrial design education in domestic brother universities at that time. After 2000, under the impetus of the continuous teaching reform measures in the college, the Department of Industrial Design has implemented a two-tier undergraduate teaching structure spanning professional basic courses and professional courses, and vigorously promoted a series of teaching ideas of professional design courses driven by design main courses.

Since 1984, our department has sent nearly 500 undergraduate graduates, 42 junior college graduates, 204 normal college graduates, 70 ordinary master graduates, 8 engineering master graduates, more than 0 doctoral graduates 10, and more than 0,000 graduates from various advanced courses and training courses 1000. These students have become the backbone of domestic design education, product development, exhibition design, advertising design and environmental design. Since 1997, our department has taken measures to encourage graduates to enter the main battlefield of industrial design-enterprises and institutions, and achieved remarkable results. At present, the graduates of our department hold important positions in Lenovo, Hisense, BenQ, Huawei, Motorola of China, Nokia, Samsung, LG, Bike, Sima, Forbidden City, National Museum, Shanghai GM, Shanghai Volkswagen and other companies. Some outstanding master graduates are directly employed by world-class enterprises such as German Benz, French Peugeot, Japanese Mitsubishi, Japanese Daihatsu, Singapore Bike Exhibition Company and Philips Electric Company. This situation is not common among domestic college graduates. Compared with other institutions, graduates of our department have stronger employment competitiveness and wider employment options.

There are about 120 undergraduates and 20 teachers in the department of industrial design, and the ratio of students to teachers is about 6: 1, ranking first among similar universities in China. The average teaching area per student is 4 square meters; The practice workshop area of the new building of the Academy of Fine Arts ranks first in the country, and the average comprehensive teaching resources of students in our department ranks first in the country.
