Photography Skills-How to Adjust the White Balance

In addition to basic composition and exposure, landscape photography solves? Light ratio? This is a very important theme in landscape photography. As long as the light ratio can be well balanced, it will be a big step for taking professional landscape photos. So how to set the white balance in photography? Come and have a look with me!

1, using a black card

In fact, the black card is not a magical device. It is just a black opaque cardboard, which is used to temporarily cover the light part of the photo from exposure when shooting, so as to achieve the effect of balancing the light ratio. It should be noted that we need to gently shake the black card when using it to avoid leaving obvious traces, so there is? Shake the black card statement

2. Use GND gradient gray filter.

Use GND to balance the light ratio between the sky and the ground, and keep the details.

On the way to shooting, we will use many different filters, and each filter has its own function. GND gradient gray is a commonly used filter with a gradient neutral coating. When in use, just aim the dark color at the sky part or the brighter part of the photo, and the operation is simple. This method can directly take photos with balanced exposure between the sky and the ground, which is absolutely different from the feeling made later.

3. Use the balance light ratio function of the built-in camera.

Canon's ALO

At present, many cameras also have the function of balancing light ratio, such as Canon's automatic lighting optimizer (ALO), Nikon's active D-Lighting or Sony's dynamic range optimization (DRO). Although the names are different, the ultimate goal is similar, that is, to balance the light and dark parts of the photo through the built-in software of the camera to simulate the effect of using GND filter. Of course, the effect is not as good as shooting directly with GND filter.

Step 4 take photos of HDR

HDR technology can be used to balance the bright and dark positions.

In addition to using GND gradient gray filter, we can also take HDR photos to balance the proportion of light. However, because HDR photos need to take many different photos of exposure value, which is not suitable for moving scenery, it is best to take photos with a tripod, so as to ensure that the framing of each photo is the same.

After taking HDR photos, you need to use post-processing software such as Photoshop CC to synthesize the photos and make post-processing fine-tuning, which takes time. Although the process is complicated, we should make good use of HDR skills in some environments, such as when the light and dark positions are not concentrated in one area, or when GND/ black card cannot be used.

5. Adjust the RAW format with Photoshop.

Sometimes, even if we use the GND gradient gray filter, we will fine-tune the light and shade in Photoshop's Camera Raw.
