I want to learn illustration, how to get started?
一_Yeyongpan invaded, giving myself a reason to study illustration
My university major was science and engineering. I resigned after working in a state-owned enterprise for two years. What happened after I resigned? How did I learn illustration in one year?
It has been a whole year since I started learning illustration at this time last year. Like most people, when I first started to want to learn illustration, I also received a lot of Obstructive voices, such as: It's too late for you to start now... Illustration requires a lot of skills, and you don't have it... These are all correct, but they still didn't stop me from starting.
The reason is of course love. I'm really lucky to be able to do a job I love.
Especially now, illustrations have been widely used in all walks of life, including startup pages, banners, topics, refresh pages, detail pages, icons, pop-up boxes, background images, holiday splash screens, emoticon packs, and packaging. , VI design, book illustrations, and many illustration peripherals, etc. Now even knowing illustrations in UI design has become a bonus. It's so important to know how to illustrate. Even if you just treat it as a hobby, you will find that your whole life will be better.
二_鹑coutile thieves≡涺pure衡苎Шappearance寤!_Yi: able, simple, not difficult
Many people asked me this year, non-majors, Is it really possible to learn illustration well with zero foundation? Do you really have zero foundation? My learning experience tells me that it is possible! No one is born with illustration skills. All excellent illustrators learn it bit by bit, so we also Same goes. And many illustrators are very good at sharing, and I have benefited a lot from them. Although my current drawings are still far behind them, when I sort out my works this year, I am very happy that I have made rapid progress. .
3_Learning illustrations by yourself without any method is actually just digging a hole for yourself
When I first started to learn illustrations by myself, I just read them from books or picked them up from the Internet. There are a lot of video tutorials, but I always feel stuck while learning. What I learn is always scattered and poorly, and my brain is a mess. On the road of self-study, the further I advance, the more strenuous it becomes, and the more I feel the urge to give up. My heart is getting more and more broken.
Later, I asked my college classmate Wang Yurou for advice. She worked in illustration after graduating from college. She said, you haven’t even reached the level of shaking a half bottle to a full bottle, so you still have the nerve to play with it. Self-study, even if you are confused even with the most basic concepts, you are not self-study, you are deceiving yourself. Then Wang Yurou transferred me to a large-scale learning resource for original painting, drawing and illustration. The various video tutorials in it are very systematic. Teachers share relevant knowledge in it every day. I just listen to it every day, and I still have a lot of fun. Not to mention, I really learned how to illustrate in a serious way, and all the doubts in my heart were wiped away.
Many friends have been asking me how to find the large-scale learning resource (skirt) for original drawings and illustrations. Let me share it with you. First, the first set of numbers is: two, three, nine, and secondly, it is in the middle. The first group of numbers is: eight, six, nine, and the last group is: three, seven, seven. Just combine the above three groups of numbers. I personally feel that on the road of learning, I can have a good learning base to accompany me. , I won’t panic in my heart.
Four_You can copy my process of learning illustration. Believe in yourself and you will have a bright future
(1) If you want to do your job well, you must first sharpen your tools - Tools
p>
My commonly used tools include a computer, PS software, and wacom hand-drawn tablet. The computer I use is a macbook pro 15-inch notebook. Currently, all my illustrations are drawn using PS, which is the most comprehensive software compared to SAI, AI, and SKETCH. The hand-drawn tablet requires some feel. Many friends say that they are not very good at using it, and they just need to practice it a few times. Maybe it’s because I don’t have any hand-drawing skills. The first time I used a hand-drawn tablet, I found it easy to use. I thought that after just drawing on the board a few times, I could present it in PS. It was so interesting. I fell in love with the hand-drawn tablet every minute. , so when I came into contact with illustration, I did not transition from paper to hand-drawn tablet, but directly started using hand-drawn tablet, and repeatedly checked and filled in the gaps according to the problems encountered.
(2) Copying---If you don’t know how to do it, just imitate it and copy it first.
Because I have no art foundation, hand-painting is the most difficult thing for me. It was really difficult at the beginning. I couldn't draw it, so I looked for good-looking illustrations on the Internet and copied them. I picked some simple pictures, such as some plants, a small animal, and a small figure like this.
(3) Semi-copying---Imitation alone is boring, and you have to play tricks after imitating it
After copying about three or four, in fact, there are only a few expressions of board painting. You have mastered it, and you will find that if you compare it with the original work, the copy is still good. Then I discovered that copying is useless, because no matter how good the copy is, it is still the work of others. You are just imitating, and all you can learn is the expression of the original work. To put it bluntly, it is some software techniques. If I really want to paint by myself, I have no ideas in my mind, and I don’t know how to write in my hands.
At this time, I began to try semi-copying, that is, adding some of my own ideas on the basis of the original work, which is equivalent to adding some of my own hand-painted ideas to the techniques I have mastered. By collecting materials, I If you think it is useful, replace or modify it into the original picture (the method is to draw a draft on paper first, then take a picture with your mobile phone and transfer it to PS for drawing), or change the original picture composition, etc. In short, modifying the original work according to your own ideas, these are all works at that stage. For me who have no art foundation, it is quite difficult to do this step well. At that time, I felt that everything was very difficult to draw. I also practiced in a notebook, but I still felt like I was working behind closed doors, and my progress was too slow.
I found a set of sketching tutorials from the learning base mentioned by Wang Yurou to improve my art skills that have been mentioned by everyone. I couldn't even draw straight lines at first, so I started practicing by drawing straight lines, starting shapes, raising tones, shaping the relationship between light and dark, etc. By learning sketching, I began to have a systematic understanding of the expression of light and shadow, modeling, etc. .
Learn sketching - geometry, still life, landscape, human structure and sketching. I applied the knowledge I learned to my board drawings as much as possible. Gradually, I felt that it was not so strenuous, and hand-painting became better.
(4) Originality---Learn from other people's things and integrate them to form your own
The next step is originality. In fact, originality is not completely thought up out of thin air. It's just painting, but it's based on a lot of materials. My method is to collect pictures and photos on the Internet of what I want to draw, find out what I like, and then collect the elements involved in the picture in my mind from different fields and combine them according to my own ideas. into a picture. This confirms a sentence: Innovation is a new combination of old elements.
In addition, at this stage, I also started to study more board drawing techniques. I often asked for many video tutorials from the teachers at the learning base, and then followed them, because there are many styles of illustrations, such as realistic and flat. , texture, etc. For me, I like flat and fresh styles, so I analyzed how these illustrations are expressed, what brushes are used, how the graininess is made, and what materials are superimposed. , why the colors look good, and then take a look at these colors to see how you can apply them to your own illustrations, etc. Then I began to summarize these techniques and make them my own, but I couldn't copy them, but applied them invisibly to form my own style.
Five-year-old is a mess, but there can be a down-to-earth approach
Learning requires a process and hardship. Don’t always think about reaching the sky in one step. This is unrealistic. We should not only be down-to-earth, but also pay attention to methods and methods, show wisdom in hard work, and achieve hard work in wisdom.
(1) About software
As for the learning of PS software, here is a small episode, because before I learned illustration, of course, at that time, I did not know that the hand-drawn tablet was a Well, I was studying photography at that time, because I prefer photography, and photography inevitably involves post-production, so I started learning PS to retouch pictures or make posters. Okay, the episode is over, here comes the real stuff.
I learned PS by reading a book called "No Trace of PS". This book is very thick. I started learning it when I just resigned from my job in November last year. I read it in bits and pieces. I studied for almost a month, but I really studied very carefully at that time. After graduation, I rarely read a reference book so hard, and I even made various marks. I admire myself when I look at it now. After reading this book, I really felt like I was proficient in PS, haha. In fact, if you just draw, you don't need to be proficient. All you need is those tools.
(2) About the website
The websites I use most every day include Zokuu and Huapet. There are many excellent works on them, which can be copied and practiced. There are also some design competitions on Zokuu and UI China. If you are interested, you can participate. I have participated in poster design competitions and some pattern design competitions. They are all good experiences, mainly because I can learn how to use the same topic. Next, what kind of ideas and expression techniques will other excellent designers use.
It is also very helpful to make good use of Huaban.com. You can usually classify and collect your favorite illustrations or materials into Huaban.com. When you use it, you can directly view it, like your own. A fortune. I also specially collected an inspiration library, which contains some of the more creative materials I browsed. Basically, there is a point that I would hardly think of. Then when I have no inspiration, I will look through it and I will often gain something.
(3) About books
I used to work in a state-owned enterprise, which really felt like boiling frogs in warm water. Now that I think about it, I either went to work or had nothing to do after work. On weekends, I think about how to have fun, where to go shopping, go shopping on Taobao, and buy all kinds of clothes. The wardrobe is full, but when the season changes, I still have nothing to wear...
Since last year After resigning, I gradually changed a lot. What I bought was not clothes, but various books about design, illustration, photography, learning methods, copywriting, operations, quality of life, etc., to learn The teacher at the resource base asked me to read some book lists, which I personally found very helpful.

(4) About Creation
Creation is actually An effective presentation after a lot of accumulation. I think the accumulation here is to read more, practice more, and record more.
Reading more means promising more works, which stimulates the desire to create.
Practice more is to practice more hand-painting skills and improve the creation speed.
To remember more is to remember more instant inspirations and increase creative ideas.
The above is all summarized by myself. I don’t know if it is correct, but I suddenly found that my summary is quite good, at least neat, like serious nonsense, haha.
I won’t go into detail about where to go to see more. I won’t tell you how much you should practice. Just practice. Don’t be afraid of more. I will continue to practice.
Please note that I have to say something, because I found that many inspirations come in a moment. I wonder if you have this feeling. For example, when I was cooking, I suddenly thought of a picture that I must draw. I came down, and then I thought, when the meal is ready, I must write down this idea. But when the meal is ready, I suddenly asked myself, what did I just say I would write down? So no matter what I am doing, or when I go out , I also usually keep a small notebook in my bag, and write it down as soon as I have an idea, because you may lose it in the next second, and you will have to think about it for a long time before you can meet it. Of course, if you have special features that you can't forget, you can ignore this one.
The above are some of my main learning methods, I hope they can help you. Remember, read more, practice more, record more! Which illustration training institution is the best

How to explain the illustrations of "The Story of the Little Rock Pond"
The author's desolate behavior sets off the desolate feelings
Educational Chinese Language Edition 2007 Autumn 8 (Part 1) "The Story of the Little Rock Pond" is replaced After the new illustrations, many teachers, especially those who had seen the illustrations of the 2004 and 2005 editions, wanted to know the reason for the frequent changes in illustrations. I also thought that if everyone knew what happened, it might be able to spark some new ideas.
This article is specially written for the enjoyment of readers.
In October 2005, the grade-level lesson preparation team asked me to take a teaching and research class. I chose "Little Rock Pond" by Liu Zongyuan and planned to teach it in one class. To be honest, I have taught this article seven or eight times. I can pick it up at my fingertips, clearly explain the content words and function words, straighten the translation of the text, and clearly explain the author's thoughts and feelings, and the teaching task is completed. However, the "Chinese Curriculum Standards" says that "textbooks should be understood and used creatively, curriculum resources should be actively developed, and a variety of teaching strategies should be flexibly used to guide students to learn to learn in practice." So, how to teach this class well according to the new curriculum standards Where is the class?
Holding the textbook, I thought about it over and over again. There is an illustration in the article, and I would like to start from here to prepare lessons.
Looking at the illustrations in the textbook, I fell into deep thought: in nearly four-fifths of the bamboo forest in the picture, a person was walking north, with bare rocks behind him. No, it doesn't match the content of the text. At this time, my interest came.
I made a simple painting based on the content of the text: the center of the painting is a pool, with fish swimming in the clear water, surrounded by bamboo trees, and people sitting by the pool and thinking. I think this kind of painting is consistent with the meaning of the text.
So, I formulated the structure of this teaching and research class: read the text thoroughly, "appreciate" the illustrations, teachers and students translate together, and create illustrations collectively. I think that being familiar with the teaching materials is the foundation. On the one hand, it is a need for Chinese teaching, and on the other hand, it is also the prerequisite for the latter link; the purpose of "appreciation" is to understand the original illustrations and seek "establishment" in "breakdown"; translation theory The purpose of following the text is to understand the meaning of the text and to collectively create new illustrations. The new illustrations should integrate the general content of the text.
When the teaching and research class entered the second stage, the classroom atmosphere seemed very active:
Teacher: What do you see from this illustration?
Student :Dense bamboo!
Teacher: Yes, there is a word in the article called——
Student: Bamboo!
Teacher: That’s right. What is that person doing?
Student: Walking! Looking from a distance!
Teacher: His direction is——
Student:——Toward—— North——
Teacher: Which sentence in the text is consistent with it?
(The classroom suddenly fell silent. Suddenly a student stood up and said)
Student :——The text says “Looking southwest of the pool”, which is the wrong direction;
——The text says “sitting on the pool”, which is wrong when standing;
——《 The main subject of "The Story of Xiaoshitan" should be "tan", not bamboo;
——The absence of "fish" in the picture is a major flaw, "fish" and "yi" are homophonic, so writing fish is The author's joy. Maybe the person who painted the picture did not understand the author's state of mind at that time;
The atmosphere of appreciation was relaxed and pleasant, and the classroom was full of criticisms of the illustrations in the textbook.
"It seems that everyone has a lot of opinions on this illustration. Well, I want to teach the text content and on the basis of understanding the main idea of ??the article, we will create a new one together. Painting." The classroom quickly calmed down, and the beaming students were full of curiosity.
After comparing the notes and the students’ self-translation, correction and summary, I told the background of the writing, highlighting the author’s state of mind at that time, which was “sadness in the joy”.
Next, according to the meaning of the text, we read and understand the text while creating simple drawings on the blackboard together:
"Bamboo Cutting Road"-Dense Bamboo Forest , there are traces of bamboo cutting and an aisle that can be walked;
"You can see a small pool below, and the water is especially clear. The whole stone is the bottom" - a small stone pool with underwater murals When it comes out, it shows that the water is very clear;
The fish is "calm and motionless" and "m is gone" - draw the dynamic (happy) and static (meditating) of the fish;
"Fighting and folding snakes" and "canine teeth differing from each other" - the flow direction of the creek and the intersection of rocks and rocks;
"Looking southwest of the pool" "Sitting on the pool" - Liu Zongyuan was facing towards the lake at this time. Nan is sitting by the pool, thinking or looking;
"Green trees and green vines, swaying and swaying," "Surrounded by bamboo trees" - use many bamboos and trees as figure paintings background.
We borrowed the title of the figure and landscape painting on the blackboard as "The desolate spirit and cold bones, the quiet melancholy and profoundness" borrowed from the text.
When the bell rang for the end of get out of class, I smiled and said to my classmates: "What a beautiful painting, let's move it into the teaching materials together!" In the warm applause, the teacher and classmates listened to the class. Like me, I was extremely excited.
The teaching and research activities fully affirmed my ideas and innovative spirit in class. Everyone believed that this was a useful attempt to boldly implement the new curriculum reform, and also hoped that I would put forward in the class "demand quality from textbook illustrations" This sentence can be realized.
How to improve simple drawings so that they can be included in textbooks? I want to understand Liu Zongyuan's article and make a good appreciation. This is the key to creating illustrations. So, I spent nearly a month searching for information and further studying the content of the text. I focused Liu Zongyuan's article on "motion and stillness" and "joy and sadness". Based on this, I wrote "Appreciation of "The Story of Little Rock Pond" and Correction of Illustrations of Jiangsu Education Edition".
At this time, my sister Sun Huiqin, who was working as a reporter at Jiangsu People's Broadcasting Station, returned home. She had extensive contacts with calligraphers and painters in Nanjing.
I told her that I wanted to find a painter who was good at figure painting to complete this matter, and she happily remembered Mr. Wang Deshun, a famous figure painter who had painted "Tianma Tu" for Yang Liwei not long ago. At the end of December 2005, she handed him my article and the sketch.
On May 25, 2006, I got the painting created by Mr. Wang Deshun based on my artistic conception. On the same day, I sent "Appreciation of "The Story of Little Rock Pond" and Correction of the Illustrations of the Jiangsu Education Edition" and a photocopy of the illustrations of "The Story of Little Rock Pond" by Mr. Wang Deshun (with attachment) to Mr. Hong Zongli, the editor-in-chief of the textbook. On June 5th, Mr. Hong personally called me, highly affirming my article and the illustrations I sent, and told me that "the illustrations have been sent to Jiangsu Education Press and will be used in the textbooks in the second half of the year." Later, news came that since the textbooks for the second half of the year had been published, they "had to wait until next year to use them." At that time, they issued me a relevant certificate:
"Proof
Comrade Sun Yuexing wrote the article "Appreciation of "The Story of Little Rock Pond" and Correction of the Illustrations of Jiangsu Education Edition", and expressed his opinions Very good, we decided to use the illustrations based on the meaning of the article.
Jiangsu Province Middle School Chinese Textbook Writing Group (Official Seal) June 2006"
Later, my "Appreciation of "The Story of Little Rock Pond" and Correction of Illustrations of Jiangsu Education Edition" was published in the 2006 ninth issue of "Chinese Loose-leaf Anthology" Teacher Edition.
After nearly two years of hard work, from discovering the problem to perfectly solving it, an illustration that matches the text of "The Story of Little Rock Pond" has finally made its way into the middle school Chinese textbook. , this is naturally a great event worth celebrating.
I would like to thank Mr. Wang Deshun for fulfilling my wish, my colleagues for their encouragement, my relatives and friends for their support, and my students for their strong cooperation. I think this splendid flower of teaching embodies the teaching philosophy of our new curriculum reform and is the fruit of our win-win cooperation. It will surely inspire us to achieve more fruitful results.

Appreciation of "The Story of Little Rock Pond" and correction of the illustrations in the Jiangsu Education Edition
Sun Yuexing
"The Story of Little Rock Pond" is a "meditation picture", which is fixed in Beside the bamboo forest and the pond, the author observes silently, enjoying each other's company. In fact, it is a cup of clear Kuding tea, with the fragrance at the front and the taste at the back.
Although Liu Zongyuan is not as sad and angry as "Qu Zi Xing Yin", his loneliness and sorrowful mood are of the same origin. He had a rough life and was frustrated in his official career. He wanted to be free but could not. When he wrote "The Story of Xiaoshitan", he had already been demoted as an official, a frustrated scholar, and "far away from the world". Although he "missed his king", he still felt deposed, lonely and bored. Therefore, visiting the mountains and rivers can express leisure feelings, soothe the sorrowful soul, show elegance, and temporarily feel comfortable. This is his landscape complex, which is reflected in his articles with a touch of worry.
You see, "cutting bamboo to take a road" in an inaccessible place shows the interest of tourists. "Separated by bamboos, I heard the sound of water, like the sound of a ring." The sound of water touching the pool before seeing the shadow was written in a pleasant, clear and attractive way. "Walking a hundred and twenty steps to the west," "There are hundreds of fish in the pond." Walking in the small pond, counting the fish eyes; "It's a dip, it's an island, it's a rock", it's a quiet look at the four shapes; "Green trees and green vines, "The sun is shining brightly, and the shadows are spread on the rocks", and you can see the fish's shadows clearly; the small fish in the pond may be "calm and motionless", or "pass away far away", or "come and go suddenly", They are all vivid and realistic; the "fighting twists and turns of snakes" and "canines and teeth" of the creek and its banks are also vividly visible. Here the author plays with a relatively static plane and uses meticulous white drawing to convey subtlety, freedom and transcendence, beautiful artistic conception, and endless aftertaste.
"Surrounded by bamboo trees and lonely," the author looks at himself in the pond, alone. There is no sound here, no birds chirping, no insects chirping, only the tinkling of the stream, the occasional wind blowing, the leaves moving, or fish swimming around, adding to the infinite tranquility and loneliness. Mountains are quiet, ponds are quiet, and people are quiet. However, is the heart also quiet?
The author was standing by the small stone pool and first heard the sound of water "like a ring ringing", which is true. I was "happy in my heart". When I saw how cute the fish in the pond were, I thought they were "having fun with the tourists." But after all, Xiaoshitan is too secluded and too clear. It is like a mirror that can see into the smallest detail. It not only arouses the author's leisurely mood, but also arouses the author's chill and sadness, forming an inextricable strange circle. It is extremely difficult to reconcile the contradictory mentality of the author who enjoys his life in time but never forgets it. When he writes about the movement of fish, he actually writes about the tranquility of the environment; when he writes about the joy of fish, he writes about the poet's depression. This is a vivid portrayal of his state of mind at that time.
Liu Zongyuan was persecuted for participating in Wang Shuwen's political reform and was demoted to Yongzhou, where he was lonely and miserable. He gave alms, traveled long distances, and wandered around mountains and rivers, just to relieve his anger and depression. However, the more he tried to distract himself, the stronger his feelings became, so he viewed the scenery with emotion and expressed his emotions through the scenery. Every tree, bamboo, spring and stone in his works seems to have a specific personality. The author's depressive state of mind is conducive to the observation of things. In the quiet observation, he discovers the infinite interest of things, which creates a quiet interest in his writing. It turns out to be "desolate and cold, quiet and profound". After remembering the pond, the author finally couldn't control it: "Because the environment was too clear to stay for a long time, he just remembered it and left." This reveals his desire to transcend.
The most remarkable thing about this article is that it depicts the scenery very carefully, combines movement and stillness, and expresses emotions implicitly in a timely manner. This requires special attention when reading and appreciating.
In view of the above understanding, the students and I sketched a sketch on the blackboard using simple drawings, which enabled the students to deepen their understanding of the content of the article. At the same time, we also put forward the following opinions on the illustrations in the first volume of the eighth grade edition of Jiangsu Education Press (June 2005, 4th edition):
1. The article is titled "The Story of Little Stone Pond", and "Little Stone Pond" should be the name of the illustration. main body. Of the five sections of the text, three sections are about the pond, so the illustration should not be a large bamboo forest, but should present a landscape with the pond as the center. At least hint at Shitan.
2. "Cut bamboo to take a road" means that the bamboo forest is dense and there is no way forward. Fallen bamboo can be seen faintly, but it is by no means a smooth road behind the person in the picture.
3. "Green trees and green vines" and the following "encircled by bamboo trees on all sides" should form a scene of alternating bamboo trees and entwined vines, not just tall and straight bamboos. There should be broad-leaved trees in the bamboo forest, not just one. They grow around the small stone pool, are connected by vines, and get along very harmoniously, so that they can be "dappled and scattered."
4. "Looking southwest of the pond, you can see the twists and turns of snakes, and you can see the light and death." Write the shape of the creek outside the pond looking toward the southwest. "The canine teeth are different from each other" refers to the shore situation. Because "looking southwest", it can be imagined that the author's position at that time was in the "first quadrant". There is "sitting on the pool" below, which shows that the author is meditating, which is in line with his "desolate spirit, cold bones, quiet melancholy and profound" state of mind. In the illustration, the author is standing there. According to the geographical direction, he is walking towards the northeast, and he must be facing a bamboo forest!
5. "The whole stone is the bottom, close to the shore, roll the stone "The bottom comes out," this sentence says that the pond is made of stone, which is the basis for the clear water in the pond. It is enough to show in the painting that the wall of the pool is made of rock.
6. "There are hundreds of fish in the pond." This section is a specific and vivid description of the fish in the pond. It is reflected in the paintings either in the still scene where the fish are stunned, or in the movement of the fish disappearing suddenly.
In short, the illustration of "The Story of Xiaoshitan" should be a character landscape painting with Xiaoshitan and bamboo forest as the background, and Liu Zongyuan's concentration and meditation as the center.
Based on the above understanding, I specially invited the famous painter Mr. Wang Deshun to create an illustration of "The Story of Little Rock Pond". It can be titled "The desolate spirit and the cold bones, the quiet sadness and profoundness". I think the new illustrations can be generally consistent with the original text content, which is conducive to students' understanding of the text content and also improves the aesthetic appeal of the teaching material.
