More Vitality —— The Secret of Reading 1 Writing

"The Secret of Composition" is a painting skill book, which also plays a guiding role in photographic composition. The unexpected gain of visiting Xishu Bookstore is a small surprise.

"Rejecting similarity and creating differences" is the purpose throughout this book. It is human nature to yearn for variety, hate monotony and constantly seek change. A good composition is to respect this humanity.

This list is arranged according to the visual tension of the pattern. The leftmost pattern group is the most orderly.

Order, the most lack of change, the most monotonous, the most disorderly and the most uneven pattern is in the rightmost group.

The most annoying thing is that these two groups of patterns go to two extremes, and neither of them looks good. The three groups of patterns in the middle are pleasant as a whole. They stimulate and excite our brains in a gentle way.

Visual power is a concept that we will use when describing specific symbol patterns. Some symbol patterns look more flexible, dynamic and intuitive. For example, visual power, horizontal lines are not as good as vertical lines, and vertical lines are not as good as diagonal lines. The more irregular the pattern, the greater the visual power displayed.

Visual weight is another concept that we will use when describing specific symbol patterns. Just as some patterns look more flexible, others look heavier. The apparent weight of these patterns makes people feel bigger, heavier and more boring than other patterns. Others look lighter, as if they can float, move or be easily lifted.

Visual intensity and visual weight are often mutually exclusive, of course, special cases are not excluded. Many patterns with visual power have no visual weight, and many patterns without movement do not give people a sense of lightness.

Because most oil paintings and sketches are created on rectangular materials, the interaction between patterns and rectangular frames has become an important part of the works. By adjusting the inclination angle of the pattern in the rectangular frame and its distance from the rectangular frame, we can create a sense of movement, progress and conflict. Distance, weight and energy all affect our impression of patterns.
