What are the requirements for shooting VR panorama?

As the saying goes, if you want to do a good job, you must sharpen your tools first. A good shooting equipment is very important for VR panoramic shooting. At present, VR panoramic shooting can be divided into aerial photography and ground shooting. In this article, we will start with the ground shooting equipment.

In fact, when it comes to panoramic shooting of VR, the application of panoramic shooting has a long history, such as panoramic house viewing, the technology of panoramic shooting is relatively perfect, and the equipment is relatively optional.

Due to the particularity of shooting angle, VR panoramic photography requires high shooting equipment. There are mainly the following three points:

1. The single shooting angle should be as large as possible. Panorama, as the name implies, needs an angle of 180 ~360 degrees, while the angle of view of the 50mm standard lens of 135 camera is about 45 degrees, which is similar to the range of scenery seen by one eye, only about 45 degrees in the horizontal direction, and even less in the vertical direction. If such a lens is used, it is conceivable that tasks such as shooting and post-stitching will be extremely arduous.

2. The exposure in all directions should be the same. If the exposure in all directions is different, the brightness in the panorama will be obviously different, especially at the junction of the pictures.

3. The camera must rotate around the optical midpoint of the camera during shooting, which is also commonly known as the node, otherwise the photos will not be accurately spliced because of different perspectives.

Generally speaking, the choice of equipment plays a vital role in image quality and post-processing. Based on the requirements mentioned above, the camera we want to use here must have manual function, be able to control exposure and use wide-angle lens. At present, most digital SLR cameras on the market can meet this requirement.
