Brief introduction of Caizi Lake

Caizi Lake is a tributary of the north bank of the Yangtze River, spanning Tongcheng County and Zongyang County in Anhui Province. The water surface consists of three lakes: Baitu Lake, Xizi Lake and Caizi Lake. The three lakes are integrated, connecting Zongyang River at Shuanghekou and entering the Yangtze River through Zongyang Gate, forming a unified Caizi Lake system. The total basin area is 3346 square kilometers, and the total lake area is 226 square kilometers. 1 Caizi Lake is a natural fishing area with rich aquatic products in history. After the completion of Zongyangmen, the number of fish decreased. The lake area is close to the Yangtze River, and it often suffers from backward irrigation in rainy season in history. After the completion of Zongyang sluice, this flood has been eliminated. Caizi Lake is an important migration and wintering place for shorebirds in inland lakes. The wetland around Caizi Lake attracts many migratory birds and resident birds, such as white-headed cranes, oriental storks, egrets and Hongyan, and becomes a photography base for bird lovers.
