Irving penn's Food Photography

"Shooting a cake can also be a work of art", especially from irving penn, one of the most famous American photographers in the 20th century. Irving penn was only 26 years old when he was commissioned by Alex Libermann, editor-in-chief of top fashion magazine Vogue, to shoot the cover in 1943. In the next 50 years, he gradually became a master of still life photography. His unique combination of elements is thought-provoking, such as raw steak and eggs, and the fragments in Revenge of Cholesterol. He injected a wealth of painting knowledge into the field of photography (a photo of a melon and a bunch of grapes is a tribute to Caravaggio), as well as an almost crazy but subtle attention to detail. In his photo, even a lettuce is delicious: all you need is two spoonfuls of oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, lemon and a clove of garlic. Irving penn recently held a retrospective exhibition at Hamiltons Gallery in London, showing all the photos he took with the theme of food from 1940 to 2000.
