Top Perfect Jiao Wai Sony SEL 100F28GM Evaluation

IT 168 Evaluation Since 20 16, Sony seems to be deliberately breaking away from the label of Zeiss and began to vigorously promote its leading R&D lens, so it also derived the series of Master G lenses. Some people may question Sony's independent research and development ability in lens, but after a year's test and the performance of Master G lens, Sony series has completely become synonymous with Sony's top optical level.

In 20 17, Sony still didn't stop, so it officially released the fourth G main lens-Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS lens. From the workmanship of the lens to the addition of some new technologies from Sony, this lens has really become the most concerned lens of 20 17. Recently, we were lucky enough to get this shot. As for the lens, please look down.

Advantages:

1. High resolution, full aperture and no pressure.

2. Built-in APD apodization filter

The nearest focal length is 0.57 meters.

Disadvantages:

1. Aperture is not large enough.

Buying guide:

Through the unused tests, we can feel that, first, this lens is absolutely solid in workmanship; Secondly, it completely inherits the high optical quality of Master G lens; Most importantly, the addition of apodization filter really makes this lens have perfect Jiao Wai function, which is definitely the first choice for portrait and commercial shooting. As for focusing, although the apodization filter can let more light pass through the center, the DDSSM (direct-drive ultrasonic motor) focusing drive system can also make this lens focus quickly in a relatively poor light environment.

Therefore, it is a lens with high comprehensive quality. Of course, the price is not cheap. Domestic selling price 1 1999 yuan. At present, Sony official website and other e-commerce channels are out of stock, which shows the fiery degree of this lens. However, because the unit price is not low, it is more recommended to professional portrait photographers or studios.

Solid workmanship and excellent feel.

Sony's new FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS lens, with a size of 85.2 x118.1mm and a weight of 700g g, gives you the first impression that it is a G main lens series, and it also has the smooth transition effect of OSS anti-shake for STF images that you haven't seen for a long time.

Sony's FE 100mm F2.8 STF G main lens can be roughly divided into three sections, the upper zoom ring, the second section for the aperture ring and the third section for the macro switch.

The side design of Sony's FE 100mm F2.8 STF G main lens is also the autofocus and manual focus switch that we often see on the FE lens. At the same time, because it is equipped with OSS anti-shake, it also has an anti-shake switch.

The macro switch of Sony's FE 100mm F2.8 STF G main lens is the round button in the above picture. This new lens has also added a small macro function, and the focal length has recently increased to 0.57m m.

It is worth mentioning that this lens adopts the newly developed APD apodization filter, which is mainly used to improve the soft focus effect of foreground and Jiao Wai, and at the same time improve the aperture erosion. After practical trial, we can feel the excellent effect of Jiao Wai dispersion circle, and we can also see that the excellent Jiao Wai effect can be achieved in F5.6-F8.

The main lens of Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF G has built-in 1 1 aperture blades, which make Jiao Wai's light spot appear more perfect circle. Although the number of diaphragm blades is not the core determinant of Jiao Wai effect, it does ensure that the highlights are round.

Because Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF G Master is positioned in the high-end GM lens, this lens also provides weatherproof sealing characteristics. In the bayonet part at the bottom of the lens, we can find a rubber sealing ring to prevent water vapor or impurities from entering the lens.

The lens of Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF G Master gives people the deepest feeling of Jiao Wai effect, which is the main feature of this lens. Indeed, due to the addition of APD apodization filter, the Jiao Wai dispersion circle that everyone is concerned about can almost be guaranteed to be a complete circle. Compared with the Jiao Wai effect of another brand's 105mm lens, this lens of Sony is perfect.

Generally speaking, Sony FE 100mm lens feels really good, and it has a certain pressure in your hand. More importantly, the addition of APD apodization filter is enough to make many people look forward to this lens.

Full aperture, full availability, excellent resolution

Usually, it is difficult for a large aperture lens to give consideration to the sharpness of focus and the softness of Jiao Wai. However, since this lens belongs to the G main lens series, it must also integrate the excellent optical quality of the G main lens. Finally, we will test the effect by evaluating the environment. During the test, Sony A7RII with 42.4 million pixels was used to take proofs of various apertures, and 100% enlarged screenshots of the center and edge of the picture were taken for comparison.

According to the 100% enlarged screenshot of the real shot sample, the resolution of Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS lens at F2.8 aperture is simply amazing. When the aperture is lowered by one step to F5.6, the image quality is improved again, and the center maintains a good resolution level until F 16. The edge resolution is a bit meaty at the maximum aperture of F2.8, but it is obviously improved by lowering one step until F 16 is almost the same as the center. So it can be seen that the maximum aperture of this lens can be safely used.

Excellent purple edge control

In terms of testing dispersion, it can be seen from the screenshot above that when the Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS lens is at the maximum aperture F2.8, there is no obvious purple edge at the focus in the Gao Fancha scene, and a green edge visible to the naked eye appears in the Jiao Wai. Then the aperture is narrowed, and the purple edge control is still good. When the aperture is reduced to F8, the green edge of Jiao Wai basically disappears. Therefore, it can be concluded that the purple edge of this lens is well controlled, but it is easy to appear green edge in large contrast scenes, but fortunately this can be solved by post-processing or narrowing the aperture.

APD apodization filter creates perfect Jiao Wai.

One of the selling points of Sony's lens this time is APD apodization filter, so what is apodization filter? The so-called apodization filter is actually a circular gray gradient mirror, which can make the central part receive more light than the edge part, thus making the Jiao Wai part in the picture softer.

Therefore, APD apodization filter can make the blur degree of the Jiao Wai part of the lens softer than that of the lens without filter, and the highlight part presents a nearly perfect circular spot. Through the following proofs, we can see that the point light source in Jiao Wai presents a perfect circle at the edge. This is the first time I have seen such a perfect circle on the edge, which really surprised me.

This lens is the only one I have ever seen that can present a point light source in such a round shape. N new lenses 105mm can be compared at the same time to judge the Jiao Wai spot effect.

The recent macro close-up of 0.57m has no pressure.

Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF general OSS not only has a soft Jiao Wai, but also has a certain macro effect. On the lens, the macro mode can be turned on directly by the macro switch, and the focal length has recently increased to 0.57 mm. The comparison of the following two photos is the comparison between the macro mode and the normal mode from the same perspective. Although it is not a complete macro lens, it is very helpful for shooting some close-ups
