About Beijing 798

The place where Beijing 798 Art Zone is located is the "Beijing North China Radio Joint Equipment Factory" built during the first five-year plan period of New China, that is, the 7 18 joint factory. The 7 18 joint factory was approved by Premier Zhou Enlai personally, planned by Minister Wang Zheng, and established with the assistance of the former Soviet Union and the GDR. 1952 joint factory was built in Jiuxianqiao area, and there is no industrial base in the suburbs of Beijing. 1954 started civil works. 1957, state leaders attended the groundbreaking ceremony and announced the production.

Beijing 798 Art District is located in the 7 18 compound of Jiuxianqiao in the northeast of Chaoyang District, Beijing. It is an art district featuring contemporary art, which gradually developed on the basis of the idle space of the original industrial buildings at the beginning of 2 1 century.

Beijing 798 Art Zone covers the original 798 factory, 706 factory, 797 factory, 707 factory and 7 18 factory (now merged into Beijing Qixing Huadian Technology Group Co., Ltd.), with a total construction area of 230,000 square meters. Its main buildings were designed and built by experts from East Germany before 1950s, adopting the most advanced technology and Bauhaus design concept in the world at that time, emphasizing artistry in practicality, with obvious characteristics of the times, simple shape and complete and tall internal space. The high skylight on the north side of the building forms a relatively homogeneous indoor light environment, which has good adaptability to the architectural and space needs of contemporary art activities.

Attracted by the quiet environment and convenient transportation of the Bauhaus building and its surrounding factories, artists of different styles have come one after another since 2002. Beijing 798 Art District has gradually become a gathering place for independent art studios such as sculpture, painting and photography, galleries, art bookstores, fashion shops, advertising design, environmental design, boutique home design, restaurants, bars and other cultural and artistic spaces. At present, there are nearly 300 cultural and artistic institutions in Beijing 798, which has become an important distribution center of contemporary art in China and an influential cultural industrial zone at home and abroad.

At present, Beijing 798 Art District has been listed as one of the first 10 cultural and creative industry clusters by Beijing Municipal Government and Chaoyang District Government. In order to accelerate the healthy and orderly development of the art district, the Chaoyang District Government and Qixing Group jointly established the Beijing 798 Art District Construction Management Office to strengthen scientific guidance, standardized management and effective service for the art district. With the joint efforts of both sides, the atmosphere of 798 Art District as a "creative area and a famous cultural park" is taking shape. In the future, the Art Zone will further strengthen the publicity and promotion of the Art Zone by attracting famous artists and art institutions at home and abroad, build a good platform for the production, display, trading and auction of artworks, promote the industrial upgrading of the Park, display the charm of the Art Zone, build the brand of the 798 Art Zone, and build the 798 Art Zone into the most distinctive and influential cultural and creative industrial base in Beijing and a world-famous cultural and creative industrial park.
