Photographers unfamiliar with documentary subjects can adjust the aperture size of depth of field. For documentary photography, we can set the aperture at f/5.6! This will not only have a larger aperture, but also make the exposure faster than before, and will not cause many blurred parts in the large aperture picture.

3. The light is too dim to do it.

If we are in a dark environment, then we can choose a large aperture to speed up the exposure speed, so as to ensure the clarity of the picture. Documentary photography does not recommend using small aperture, such as f/ 16 aperture, which will make most objects in the picture clear. In a complex environment, setting a clear environment will disturb the appearance of the subject, so the large aperture is the gear used more in documentary photography.

4. The focal length affects the depth of field.

Many times, not only the aperture will affect the depth of field, but also the focal length of our SLR lens will affect the performance of the depth of field. AF-S Nicol 24-70mm and Nicol 28mm are commonly used lenses in documentary photography. Documentary photography can use short and medium focal lengths, capture the required harmonious environment, and make the picture have greater depth of field.
